Looking for advices

Hi guys, I was wondering if you can help me in finding some TV series worth watching

I'm not looking for superheroines in a costume but for strong girls with any kind of superpower in a mildly supernatural environment. You see, I have this thing for realistic settings merged with supernatural elements that don't go too overboard.
I'm talking about series like Charmed and Lost Girl.

When Charmed first aired I was 11 and I think it triggered a good deal of my love for super-powered women. But I couldn't go past season 3 because I was madly in love with Prue and couldn't bear seeing her replaced.

On the other hand, I found out about Lost Girl only a few days ago thanks to Camille's profile picture. Well, it just blew my mind. This is exactly the kinda show I'm in love with and I can't wait for season 4. I don't care if there are many other super-powered characters, Bo is raw power and the plot is damn good.

I trust you can give me any advice about something similar? Thankies

Continuum might be something you'd be interested in. It's about a detective from 2077 who finds herself trapped in present day Vancouver and searching for ruthless criminals from the future. She does has some technology from the future with her, including a "supersuit" that enhances her physical abilities and invisibility.

Season 2 aired on SyFy this summer and Season 1 is availble for streaming on Netflix.

The cinemax show "Hunted" is a show that i am not sure went fullbore supernatural-more of it suggested supernatural do to its tone and how it was shot-it is basically an art movie done as a kick ass woman TV show. In any case i think the first episode is something i would recomend everyone see.

"Alias" is one that you could forget, or maybe didn't see-and i didn't see all of it as it lost me at couple of points-but i thought at some point the supernatural elements where the best part of it-they had a lot of fun with werid mythology, crazy visual shit and the like. And they did a good job at points in suggesting that main heroine may not be quite.....well.....

"Secret Circle"-is a show that was a lot like Charmed-that lasted maybe a season-but for obviously a show aimed at getting the twilight demographic had a momment or two and some fun action. Really good at playing around with idea of power, and how to use it.

Heroes- is a show that went of the rails pretty quickly. But someday i still want to watch the first season front to back as its was a great show, and it had a fun take on the superstrong woman-or at least suggested on that it never quite lived up to .

Misfits -is a show that i haven't watched all that much of-and doesn't always emphasis its action elements-but is a fun take on the conceit to a degree.

Similary

Orphan Black-is much more of a thriller then an action show-but when it is good it is an amazing show. Its an actors excersise yes, but its good.

And since you didn't mention them:

Buffy the Vampire slayer, Firefly,the last two seasons of Angel, and Dollhouse(those the latter isn't all that great in my opinion).

@Castor: thanks for the long list, I'll look them up! The only one I've seen is Misfits, first two seasons are epic but then it fucks up. Robert Sheehan is so great it makes up for the lack of powerful girls. Oh, and thanks for mentioning Buffy. I forgot to say that I avoided it entirely because unfortunately I can't stand Gellar's face (much like Julia Roberts's).

To each his own, of course, but to be actively repelled by the sight of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Julia Roberts is definitely an interesting perspective.

It's not about beauty, I'd never say they are ugly. Of course they are not. They are both pretty hot. But I wouldn't watch shows with them because... I dunno. Their faces are just unbearable to me. Don't you ever happen to feel the same about someone's face? That you can't stand it for no reason?
If you want my full list... I can't watch anything with Uma Thurman, Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson in it. As I said, it's not about beauty.

The problem with buffy- which i like was.....well Sarah Geller Wasn't very good. She had her momments, but often she looked like a vaugely druged out sad kitten(which isn't to say i think she was on drugs, just i think the style she was going for-she just over emoted to childrens pantomie levels).

I do like the show-the other performances where great as where the writing and the action-but yeah, i can see. Looking at her face-not so much what it was but how it looked i could see you.

Almost was going to recomend Dark Angel, which i am glad i didn't now(Jessica Alba, who was pretty awful) though i thought the second season had some sci fi stuff in it.

Oh and three more shows-

Vampire diaries-another american TV show-about guess what vampires. I think it was pitched as twilight, and watching half a season was twilight- but from reading about it at some point it got really good in a teen soap opera kind of way and really batshit crazy. As a soap opera-well you may have trouble, but what can you do.

Tru Blood-confes- i have watched maybe an episode as most of the time its been on the air didn't get the cable channel-but i guess the strong part of the show was that it had a strong supernaturally powered heorine, who has adventures-and yeah lots and lots of sex.

both of these are vampire shows, so take what you will(though i have heard tru Blood got less vampy as it went)

and one more big one

the Nine Lives of Chloe King-i kick myself for forgeting this the first time. I LOVED THIS SHOW. If only for the nerdy best friends T-Shirts, which where inveviatably featured fairly deep cut marvel characters(this was produced when disney first bought marvel). It is great show, that found kind of an intresting balance of having a superpowered female character without making her a superhero, and creating a kind of neat lory world for her to be in. Good performances to.

The action yeah, it was often....yeah. But the one season was very good.

I'd like to avoid teen characters as much as possible though (The Nine Lives of Chloe King is just one season so I'll give it a shot anyway)

I've just finished watching Chloe King. I have to say I was going to write a bad review up until half season, but then I changed my mind with the last four episodes. Despite an awkward and probably not sufficiently reharsed beginning, when the plot finally starts kicking in we are provided with a great show and you can really see the actors growing with it. It all builds up to an excellent ending that "cliffhangered" basically everything (which in turn should make the canceling of the show a felony).
As someone who can't really stand the teenage-y stuff going on, I applaud the creators for having found such a good balance between romance and supernatural despite the budget being incredibly low. Indeed I think that most of Chloe King's problems can be blamed on the budget. First, there are too few actors. I mean, where the hell are the Mai? They're presented as such a great and ancient mythological Order, but then what we see is only half a dozen of teenagers with martial art skills. Then we have a complete lack of special effects done properly where even the stupidest thing (such as the claws) are dirt cheap. Finally, fighting scenes are terrible. Like, terrible. No actor here has a clue about how to fight, both teenagers and adults.
However while these problems are a drag on the first half of the season, as I said the second half compensates with good storytelling, and that's what matters most.
And Skyler Samuels is hot. Very.

All very true. though someone who knows people who have worked in Martial arts in low budget situations-they just did a bad job. Stunt cordination just didn't work, and they couldn't integrte it well with the special effects(such as they where).

Tht said I would say at times that awkardness kind of worked for it. Chloe wasn't suposed to be a genius martial artist but kind of brought into the world without really knowing what to do. Skyler Samuels is hot, and at her best she was very good of just being a kind of awkard teenager, thrust into a world she didn't quite know how to deal with, even if she was superpowers. Even with plots about ancient wars of supernatural forces there was something fun about someone in a show like that who had an element of imperfect realness to her

I agree, both on the fights and on Skyler Samuels. She really made a good job from start to finish and she's very pleasant to look at (not just because she's hot but also because she clearly liked Chloe as she stated in some interviews).

By the way, did you know that a Chloe King movie sequel to the TV series was in the making? Unfortunately it didn't get the green light to be produced, but Alloy Entertainment publicly released its full script, you can download it here . Even if you have to read it instead of watch it, I think it's still worth it. It takes up where 1x10 left off wrapping up everything.

Thank you fats for suggesting this one! To be honest I thought the movie was kind of hideous, but the two seasons of the TV series were very funny and enjoyable! (Besides, they have much better special FX than Chloe King's, lol)

Although Vanessa Morgan is one pretty girl, my favourite one was Kate Todd by far. She's smoking hot, she's blonde, she's fairly tall, she has broad shoulders and her character has a femme fatale attitude that totally fits her. Besides, the real Kate Todd is also intelligent and altruist. How perfect a girl can be? I'm so glad she's a super-powered vampire in the show.

She'd be an awesome Supergirl, leaning on the sweet side because of her smooth and round facial features.
This is my new podium: Laura Vandervoort is the perfect supergirl overall while Danica Thrall would be the perfect one for a tougher version of the character. And then Todd would be the best one for a sweet, gentle (and admittedly younger) Supergirl.
