AKA Jessica Jones on Netflix

So, with all the excitement about Supergirl on CBS, it looks like a certain superstrong Marvel heroine coming to Netflix is flying under the radar. I couldn't find any thread her about the Jessica Jones series, so, here we go with what's know so far...

As part of a deal with Marvel, Netflix is going to have 4 shows that tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe; meaning that they'll tie in with the movies and with Agents of SHIELD. One of those series is AKA Jessica Jones, starting off about the time that she is freed from the Purple Man's psychic control.

Krysten Ritter is cast as Jessica, and she was hard-assed enough in Season 2 of Breaking Bad to make her a believable choice, IMO.

Another interesting tidbit is that apparently, Carol Danvers is going to be introduced in this series, according to the IMDB page for the show. Whether we see Carol as the ex-spy (possible given that Jessica is acting as a private investigator in the show) or as Captain Marvel remains to be seen.

They're still working on casting and production, but the first Marvel/Netflix show is Daredevil, set to premier on April 10th, so there should be more information coming in the next few months.

Still relevant to the show, but of possibly lesser interest to folks here, Mike Colter is going to be Luke Cage, and they just announced David Tennant as the Purple Man.

We had an older thread about the main casting here:

superwomenmania.com/index.php/forum?view=topic&catid=8&id=29084

But happy to restart conversation about this series. I'm very excited about the possibilities and think it'll make a great series, especially "off-network" where Jessica's language and sex life can more closely mirror how they are depicted in the comics.

I loved Krysten Ritter in BB, and I agree 100% that she's a great choice. Her character on BB I think even had a some of Jessica's personality and traits, aside from her superstrength of course! )

More evidence that Hollywood hates redheads! :P I blame David Caruso for the backlash, personally...

Wow - "Hellcat" and "television" are two words I never thought I would see together. But Patsy's pretty funny so I think it's a potentially good idea to put her in the show.

I'm keeping getting more and more interested in this show.

I really want to see what Netflix does with their opportunity to play in the marvel universe.

If for nothing else David Tennant as a marvel villian sounds pretty great. Especially the kind of Polite and friendly even as he does the most horrible things Purple man. Its a really great choice and hope it turns out well.

Him versus Krysten Ritter could be a lot of intresting-there both very intelligent actors and delighted to see what they could do.

Wow that's unexpected, but perfect casting. I wonder if they are going to make him speak in a Croatian accent? Purple Man is from Croatia in the comics, but they could change it for TV. Tennant is Scottish, but spoke with an English accent in Doctor Who and an American one in Gracepoint. I guess he can do them all, so why not?

Considering what I remember from the initial run of Jessice Jones in the Marvel Universe, her closer no-nonsense friend happened to be Carol Danvers. I'm saying that it will be the case, but it's a possibility.

I think somewhat doubtful. When they were developing Jessica Jones for ABC a few years ago, Carol was supposed to be a supporting cast member, but that as before the Captain Marvel movie was announced. I highly doubt they'd introduce her character on TV before debuting her in her movie incarnation.

Marvel seems more amenable to crossovers than DC but every occur acne I can think of (Shield, Sif, Peggy Carter) we're first introduced on the big screen before appearing on TV. With Captain Marvels movie not set until 2017-18, I can't see her appearing on the netflix series.....unfortunately

All true, but since the Avengers franchise is evolving in some pretty unexpected ways, I wouldn't rule it out completely.

I agree with this, though I could see Marvel having her appear in one scene or so to tie things in. They like to buck convention. (Like releasing a block buster in August, filled with unknown characters.)

I could see Marvel using it as a promo opportunity. Why pay to run an ad spot when you can drop it in the show you are already making? I haven't heard that they'd cast Carol yet though. If they've not, time is getting a bit short for her to appear on the show. I don't think they'd jeopardize the movie at all for the TV show.

Doubtful. If sadly for no other Reason then in 1992 on Models, inc She played the older model who was having trouble finding work. In Pompei she played the mother of the heroine,i doubt thats the direction they would go with a major star of a movie. But that could work. Moss is a good Action heroine, and also good at showing emotion underneath it and having her play an older but Wiser Carol Danvers could be neat.

Or It is possible that they could transform Carol into another heroine character(which one- i donno, Marvel sadly doesn't have all that many) and let her mentor Jones.

I sure hope Marvel uses her to play some heroine, but I have doubts. The people she could be are limited, unless they create someone new. About all I came up with was Miss America (aged well from WW II by the benefit of her powers). (Not to be confused with America Chavez.) There would be nice ties to Captain America there, though it would unwind Marvel movie history to have another super powered being in WW II. She could have been top secret and kept that way so only a limited number of people knew. Opens the door for references to others of the time (Invaders). I do like that secret history thing, where Captain America was the flash that kept people distracted initially, and they used a team behind the scenes to get things done. It would explain why initially in Captain America they didn't use him for anything, and resisted doing so.

Hm. Maybe Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew). She has a Hydra history, and could exist. If they don't mind setting her to be that age. She is already set as "one of the older spider-women". I would *think* they could use her as she has zero connection to Spider-Man, though who knows how those contracts are written.

Jessica Jones is already pushing the narrative. In the movies there are limited super powered beings. And Jones' backstory she needs to be a minor hero, and have run ins with the Purple man. Then quit, and fast forward a period of years. That's already hard to shoe-horn into the Marvel timeline. My guess is they'll shorten the time gap. SHIELD has shown there were a few powered being around that got collected up. Though re-writing Marvel history is appropriate for Jones, its what the series did. Somehow I didn't mind it for her but did for Sentry (he was a giant rock that smashed all over history, she was minor tweaks here and there).

Carol is one of those people in comics whose time line makes no sense. All the weird stuff that's happened to her must have de-aged her ,as she has to be pushing 75 (she was likely about 30 in 1970, w/ events that were tied to the 70's). Moss would do an excellent job though, I just don't see marvel taking that on. They already have problems with Downey's age.

It also helps that she is more than used to playing as someone that is superpowered. She was the co-main star in that campy movie Vamps where she displayed levitation and superspeed so that always gives me hope.
