Melissa Rosenberg, showrunner for the Netflix series, has given some hints that Jessica Jones might appear as her previous superhero alter ego, Jewel, in a recent interview. For those unfamiliar with the character, Jewel was Jessica's foray into being a superheroine as a pink-haired, flying, superstrong female hero until she was "manipulated" by the Purple Man (played by David Tennant) in the comics before stepping out of the hero business (and into the P.I. business) for good.
It's unknown whether it'll definitely happen -- and if it does, whether it'll be as an origin of sorts or a flashback sequence (probably the latter I'm guessing) -- but if it does, it would definitely be exciting!

It wouldn't be the first time we've seen her in superheroine garb....sort of. Here she is from the Breaking Bad episode where she appeared in this drawing as Apology Girl.
My guess is they will use flashbacks to reveal her superheroine days and how they came to an end in the same manner they dealt with detective Christian Walker/Diamond in the "Powers" TV adaptation.

I'm confused, I thought she was still super strong. just not a mainstream hero anymore. But the above suggests she lost her powers.

No, you are correct. She maintained her superstrength before and after, but her "incident" with the Purple Man (as Jewel) caused her PTSD and I think repressed her power of flight (though I'm not an expert on her past)
