More in the Watchman vein, then the traditional popcorn superhero movies.
Peace.

But the TV adaptation looks like it may back away from that enough to merely be dark. And, in general, I trust Karl Urban enough to give anything he wants to be a part of a chance. I'll probably watch it later this week (after finishing off Good Omens)
Same here. While I still enjoy some of the early exploit of Garth Ennis every time I read one of his attempts at superhero comics I feel the need to bleach my soul.

First episode included the same scene as what was in the spoiler, but it was expanded quite a bit. She makes a lengthier appearance in Ep 3.

It's a little weird because she doesn't actually do anything superhuman in that scene.

Are you referring to the scene where she drops in front of the armored truck?

I'm pleased and surprised that most of the super-strength scenes involve females.
The writing is creatively over the top and a little bit insane -- ala Translucent's demise -- but that makes it fun and a little twisted from a genre perspective, and gory as hell. These superbeings are NOT superheroes.
The possible exception, Annie/Starlight, is very likable. The connection that she and Huey seem to have has promise of being some of the stuff the SWM runs on.

This scene starts at 6:40 (right after Robin gets "splattered" -- not even sure what to call it).
This appears to be a departure from her description from the book where she can fly and project blasts of light. I don't recall seeing her fly in the show, but she's definitely stronger than was mentioned in the book's Wiki. .
Another scene with Hughie is fun where they are bowling, and she's spectacularly bad at it untl Hughie tells her to quit trying to boost his ego. On her next throw, she nails a strike with all the power of a bowling pro and then some. The ball barely touched the lane on the way to the pins. She seems a lot happier not to have to hide her abilities around him, and its a interesting development of their growing relationship.
Score one for the SWM meme of "dating a supergirl who is learning to use her powers."

This one sits in front of episode 6:
Yeah, ep 6 was kind of a dud, but I guess it moved the story along...
Great ending in Ep 8, by the way. Clear setup for next season. I read somewhere (wikipedia maybe?) that the second season was already ordered before the first season was even released. Is that uncommon or typical? Anyway, ya gotta wonder whether the writers are more interested in keeping us or the buyer on the hook. It worked for both..
Overall I found the writing, the acting, and the production all very well done. Would have liked to see more of Queen Maeve of course, but the potential remains...

You could have used that =)
I wonder if we will see some of the other 'teams' featured in the comic books, in the next season.
The part where I was amused the most was the photo/autograph section with all the past "stars", including real ones (Zane, Reed...), and the "Mesmerizer" (the actor from The 6th Sense -prodigy child back then), i found that genious !

It's not routine for everything, but especially among streamers, it's common for a high-profile and expensive show to get a two-season order up front to spread the costs around a little. Still, we're a long way from the traditional network model of a "season" being 20 or more episodes. Two seasons of this still isn't really giving us all that many installments.
