I love The Mandolorean!
Three episodes in and the only female character (yet, more to come) really makes an impression on me.


How do you depict a female in full armor and retain her femininity?
Fur collar to simulate long hair, Chest plates on the bust line and a skirt with leggings.
And a real woman under the armor.

I am quite smitten with actress Emily Swallows

In a room full of fully armored tough guys she carries herself and stands out.
Quite a woman.

And gina carano no sale

I'm also a huge fan of Mando  

Love the show so far, feels like the old magical Star Wars

My only complaint would be the runtime is a little short  

But thats really a minor, minor nitpick because its so good

The short run time forces them to tell a tight story.
In a couple of weeks you will be able to watch the whole thing through like on long movie.

In fact, a friend and I have said we wont watch the remaining episodes til they have all aired

Then blitz through them as one long movie

Only downside, I think the last episode is in Jan next year

That's how I do it too, K  I'd much rather wait for a series to finish before starting so I can watch at my own speed, which is usually two episodes per day until I'm done. And I love to read or watch spoilers before I watch a show. I know mileage varies a lot on this point, but I think in-depth spoilers make a movie or show more interesting when I do finally watch it. I finally get to see all the things that were teased. 

I started doing the delay thing back while living in Malaysia without access to many US shows, I had to pick up a Season of interesting shows on DVD when I was periodically back in the US and take them back with me to binge. Got used to waiting back then. 

Heck, my wife and I even do it when watching American football today. I pre-record the games and wait until halftime before I start watching so I can skip over all the ads and other nonsense, yet still finish the game in real time. That way I can enjoy 2 or 3 times as many games on Sunday than otherwise. NFL football is 60 minutes of playing time buried inside as much as four hours of mostly useless junk. 

Technology should be our friend... the NFL gets their money from me because I buy a season pass to all games on DirecTV. Same for other studios/networks given I buy my shows on AppleTV, and they get a part of that. Don't need to "pay by watching ads", which is a profoundly useless waste of time.

And yes the armorer is great. She is basically in charge of the Mandalorian covert, so the complaint (from certain corners) that there are "no female characters" is of course nonsense.
And of course we have two more coming: Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Fennec (Ming-Na Wen), two anticipated actresses who always bring lots of beauty and charisma.

Really hope that Gina's star turn in this will allow her to reach the A-list status that will propel her into a Marvel Universe role: She-Hulk!!

I too am looking forward to seeing Gina Carano   Lovely looking woman, enjoyed her in Deadpool, F&F, and Haywire (?) I believe (been a while)

As for her being She-Hulk, hmm, not sure she would be a great fit.  She has the physicality for the role.  But still not 100% she can carry a show on her own just yet.

Having said that, I did read an interview with her about her role in Mandolorian.  She said it gave her more to work with then any role she's had, so that should be interesting to see.  And Faverau told her he had complete faith in her to pull it off.

Will be interesting to see her development   Best of luck to her

Not sure it matters too much who the actress is, given that no actor can come close to representing She Hulk in her green form. 

So while the pink-skinned human form of She Hulk could be played by any decent actress, the Hulk expression has to be total Computer Graphics. But CG hasn't yet crossed the uncanny valley when it comes to human movement and facial expressions, although outgrowths from Cameron's Avatar motion capture techniques are getting better.

This worked for Hulk, who is kind of a monstrous creature and isn't expected to act or emote like a person. He can be a comic-book character computer injected into a live-action movie. But She Hulk isn't that kind of character, even when green, just a much bigger and stronger and dramatically curvaceous woman. Her personage should still be emoting like a human when in green form, because she's still thinking and acting kind of normally, unlike the Hulk.

Bottom line, I think a good She Hulk movie is much harder to make than a good Hulk movie. I have no doubt computer graphics will eventually get us past the uncanny valley, but I suspect any movie made now would be kind of awful. It would either have a normal-person-sized She Hulk with enhancement editing, or a proper sized/built CG She Hulk who is trapped in the uncanny valley. 

But a 5'8" / 140 pound She Hulk (Gina Carano size) doesn't do it for me. Per the comics, she's 6'7" tall and weighs 650 pounds (but due to her height, she looks like a muscular 280 pounds or so). And cute. Gina does that part OK.

I totally agree with you Shadar, in that to capture She-Hulk as she is in the comic, would need amazing CG.

And like you I don't think its quite there yet (though very damn close).

So, the assumption is they will do it the old Lou Lou Ferrigno way, and cast someone who has SOME physicality to them.  And yet also the more human. character side.

Could that work?  I don't know tbh.  But I would take that over distracting CGI.

Though having said that, if the budget per episode is high enough, having a decent looking human CGI character could be possible.

Thank you shadar. Is true with Gina Carano don't work what she hulk.  Hay pictures de ella pintada en verde.  Pero con cgi solo tienen que usar una actriz. Y según creo elizabeth ducku. A parte de que además de gina carano hay miles de atletas de figure and fitness para el papel. The problem is size no miden 2 metros o más. 

Getting OT to the topic of The Armorer, but I also am not convinced the tech is there to capture the nuance of a live-action/CGI She-Hulk without really losing a lot of what makes the character work on the printed page.  I thought for sure that when they announced the TV show, it was going to be animated not live for that reason.

My guess is that the series is going to be based on the Dan Slott-era, but who knows?

My concern is that showrunners will go off and produce a show that absolutely fails to impress anyone who is a She Hulk fan, but has enough politics and millennial-focused touchy/feelly content to draw viewers who don't have a clue who the She Hulk has historically been. 

Supergirl is bad enough that way (although they largely got her heroic and selfless heart about right, and she looks OK, even if everything else was wrong). But She Hulk, far more than Supergirl, depends on a dramatic superhuman presence that you can't easily fake. 

Sure, you can do a Peter Jackson (shrinking the hobbits by having the big people stand on stools when interacting), but height obviously isn't the biggest challenge with She Hulk. The extra 150 pounds of phenomenally-defined supermuscle and her similarly oversized boobs and backside that are only going to work in CG, which a number of us have noted isn't advanced enough for THAT!

Would a She Hulk green form played by a bodybuilder standing on a stool and the pink-skin form played by Gina work?  Doubt it. 

CG that is indistinguishable from live action and that possibly includes some holographic 3D content would rock my world. Hope I live long enough to see some of it. She Hulk would be a good initial showcase for that tech, when it comes. A completely CG She Hulk trading blows in the ways you could only show in 100% CG with an equally realistic Hulk would be absolutely awesome. You know,  as they level some government research Lab or flatten a small mountain, along with a sound track where the shockwaves of their mighty blows drive us into our seats and make our ears ring. Oh yeah. I'm ready.
