It was established this past Sunday that "orphans"--people from Earths that didn't survive the Crisis--have been popping up on Earth-Prime. it's possible that she's one of them, a doppelganger of Alex who's Kryptonian.

A new image from an upcoming episode may have shed light on what's going to happen. Episode 5X16 will be titled Alex in Wonderland. Judging from the title, it's possible we're looking at a dream/hallucination/whatever that will lead to the appearance of SuperAlex. On a good note, the episode will also feature the return of Helen Slater as Alex's mother Eliza Danvers, as well as Olivia Nekkanen as a teenaged Alex.

ALEX TAKES ON A NEW ROLE – Alex (Chyler Leigh) uses a pair of Obsidian contact lenses to visit a virtual National City where she takes on a whole new persona. Meanwhile, Kelly (Azie Tesfai) helps William (Staz Nair) investigate Lex. Kara (Melissa Benoist) deals with difficult news. Tawnia McKiernan directed the episode with story by Rob Wright and teleplay by Jess Kardos & Mariko Tamaki (#516). Original airdate 3/22/2020.

Basically Alex is coping with the aforementioned difficult news(revealed at the end of tonight's episode) in an unhealthy way by escaping into a VR simulation. Of course things escalate.

Hopefully they won't muck this one up!  They've touched on Alex's 'jealousy' towards Kara in several previous episodes.  Will be interesting to see how she reacts to wearing the pants now.

Interestingly while this might not be the actual intention when they made the episode, she might have to be Supergirl for a while for REAL because of the virus shutdown ruining their filming slot for getting season 7 shot early before Melissa starts to show and can't do action scenes.

It would be one way to solve the problem.
