She was fantastic on The Good Place. She’s hella funny … and that carries through in interviews with her.

Along with Goa for writing credits … this firming up that this series is likely to lean into the humor.

Totally agree :)  Loved her in that :)

Additionally, she is gorgeous and almost 6ft tall :)

I def think this show is going down the "Ally Mcbeal" as they said originally.  The MCU likes to mix up their genre - WandaVision (surreal sitcom); Falcon and Winter Soldier (political adventure); Loki (too early to tell, but could be a procedural crime style show).  And She-Hulk now going into comedy.

Looking forward to how this show plays out :)  Can't wait :)

Peace.

I am all for a comedic She-Hulk show that focuses more on Jen Walters navigating life as a hotshot young lawyer. This casting looks to fit right in with that. Color me excited.

Every time there's a bit of solid news about this, it seems like it's solid good news. Loved "The Good Place" and loved her in it, and she should make a suitably exotic supervillain.

I have always been hoping that Marvel was going to use the Dan Slott version of She-Hulk for their television inspiration.  It seems like they are,

I was guessing they were using John Byrne's run as their basis, but who knows.  Will probably be a mish-mash of styles.

Marvel tends to use a blending of many original sources when adapting things. Like in WandaVision the "Ship of Theseus" discussion was from a fairly recent Mark Waid Avengers story. You can actually find a few stories that combine up... but nothing quite matches WandaVision, which in the end is a new story.

The reason I see Slott's run being given more focus is that during the Byrne run she was She-Hulk all the time. That would run the CGI budget up. There wasn't that much emphasis on a day job, she did have a solo law firm, but she didn't focus on it as much and partied/adventured most of the time.

During Slott's run, she was Jen at work at large law firm, and the reasons for that were part of the plot and something you could focus on developing in the show. So you get cheaper filming and the backdrop of her job to add texture to the show, as well as a good vehicle to explore how Jen is different from She-Hulk.

So, I'd think for story/plot they'll probably mix more Slott than Byrne, but I'd be VERY surprised if when watching the show there weren't a lot of "that's Byrne right there!" moments.

I'm wondering if they'll use Byrne's break the fourth wall stuff in the show or not. It's a note that can fall flat if over-used or not written well, but it can also be fun if used correctly. I suspect they'll leave out of the melody ... but marvel makes movies out of talking raccoon and tree and make that work so ...

I don't know if anyone has had Deadpool and She-Hulk in the same comic both talking to the reader...I've got almost all Jen's appearances but some of the Deadpool stuff I'm missing --- though the Deadpool stuff is post-Byrne when she'd stopped doing that mostly and she's usually only cameo-ing in the comic. (I tend to read them as I find them rather than binging though the list with Marvel Unlimited.)

There is even some explanation for it in recent Hulks -- all the Hulks are part of the same horror show from the recent Hulk (which is VERY good). Jen has mostly been in the sidelines but got pulled in Full-time in the latest issue. I'd be surprised if during the resolution of that she doesn't turn back into a more traditional She-Hulk... Desptie what other writers have done (or rather NOT done), Al Ewing has really put the right notes on the current She-Hulk and why she is that way... and why during Tamaki's Hulk run the end she should have been back to normal She-Hulk and they that's not true in Avengers.

That's because Jason Aaron is mostly doing a hack writing her, and doesn't seem to have given it any thought. He wanted the Hulk, and couldn't have him due to Ewing's run, so ignored the entire point of the Tamaki run, took the "Hulk" from there, jazzed her up and that's what he uses in Avengers.

I don't mind the massively muscled She-Hulk -- as a phase, but mostly his writing hasn't done a great job of things. I was amused by the She-Hulk/Thor thing...

I'm not sure how any of the Gamma characters get out of Ewing's run and back to normal, but Jen is probably the one who is designed so that could happen. I said in another thread that as the TV show hits, comic book Jen would align more with TV Show Jen, even if it's not 100%, it'll be closer than it is now. That's how marvel has been working.

They want some nice collections sitting on the shelf so that fans of the show have something to buy. The sales of books related to WandaVision was pretty amazing.

I agree with TOT about most of those points.  I would be very surprised if she didn't break the fourth wall though.  It's been a common thing on TV since House Of Cards and being that She-Hulk actually does it in the comics, it seems a logical thing.  Whether it works or not is a different thing of course.

That's a pretty good point Twice.  You're probably right there.

And ye, totally agree with you on Marvels mash-up style.  'Cause I'm the main comic book/geek/nerd in my circle of friends, they kept asking me during Infinity Saga "whats gonna happen?"  "Who's that?".

I was like, "Well it looks like its [X Story] but this part is [Y Story]...." :P

I agree Agent00Soul, I too would be surprised if they didn't do the "breaking the 4th wall" thing.  I seem to remember reading somewhere that they were planning on using that in the series, hence my assumption they were going with Byrne's stint.

And it worked brilliantly in House of Cards (original British version, not the US knockoff :P ).

Looking forward to seeing how it works out.  First trailer should be interesting :)

Peace.
