10 heroines

Okay, that's my ten for now. As I said before, it's not intended to be exhaustive. Neither are the categories mutually exclusive. Two or more can be mix and matched into a single character.

What's your favorite heroine type?

The Juggler. Specifically, the second image of the Juggler :)

If I had to choose one, it'd probably be the reluctant heroine.

I'd have to go with the Juggler and Reluctant Heroine as my favourites, with Juggler probably on top, though I do like the Paladin and a naive combination of Outsider and Innocent too. All of them have their place and I certainly think that a workshop could be put together from this list. Perhaps everybody could select a different heroine or combination of heroines. The only other thing I'd managed to come up with so far was a "Secret Superwomen" workshop, but I think this will work better.

And just to add, I do love the little quotes for each type of heroine. I think they sum them up nicely.

We could add The Secret Superwoman to the list, maybe.

Does anybody else have any favorites they would like to add to the list? I know I missed a bunch.

Extra Credit (via Anon): The Redeemed Villainess - "This would be so much easier if I was still evil!"

The redeemed villainess has turned her back on a life of crime and destruction in order to become a heroine. She has a tough road to hoe. Nobody on the good side can fully trust her, because of who she used to be. Everybody on the evil side hates her, because she has betrayed them. Her commitment may waver at times, but she usually grits her teeth and does the right thing, because she knows that there are people who would take great pleasure in seeing her fail.

There are as many reasons for her redemption as there are villainesses. It may have been love that made her see the light, or the death of a loved one. She may have had an epiphany that there was more to life than crushing the life out of innocent bystanders.

I got to thinking about how these "types" apply to the super-heroines in your own stories.

Liberty Belle and her cohorts (Amber Waves, Skylark ...) are obviously "Good Soldiers" -- although you've given each of them a distinctive personality within that framework. Stupendous Girl started off as a "Ditz" and morphed into an "Outsider." And I get a "Reluctant Heroine" vibe from Iona.

My super-heroines are typically "Paladins" with a bit of the "Innocent" mixed in, along with an occasional dash of the "Juggler" and the "Reluctant Heroine."

If this does become the basis for the next workshop, and if it's run the same way as the "Villainess" workshop, I'd like dibs on "The Dilettante."

Extra Credit (via Argonaut): The Humanitarian - "The power to help people is the greatest super power of all!"

While the Paladin uses her super-powers to fight evil, the Humanitarian uses hers to do good. Tirelessly, without thought of reward, she flies around the world, using her powers to bring food to victims of famine, to bring rain to drought-stricken farmland, to rebuild cities leveled by earthquakes. If the need arises, she'll stop a convenience-store robbery or thwart a terrorist plot, but her overriding concern is to protect the innocent rather than punish the evil-doers.

Running around in a silly costume, fighting other people in silly costumes seems like a waste of time to the Humanitarian, when there are so many innocent people in the world who need her help.

Hmmm...
What about the hero that think "The ends justifies the means"?
While #4 get close to that I do not really think they are the same.
#4 in my oppinion is more like Batman while this would be more like Wolverine.

The Ditz and the Dumb Blonde are, indeed, two sides of the same coin. The Ditz is more heroic (or has a better PR department), but they are cut from the same cloth.

If people think there is enough meat on the bones of this thread to be the basis of the next workshop, then that's fine with me. I'm not sure if there is enough meat. The final decision is up to JKIJ. If he has a cool idea for a workshop, then I don't want to derail it.

I happen to like the Ditz or Dumb Blonde best of all(although I like redheads and brunettes too), followed by the outsider. I still remember the Angel and the Ape comics, with Dumb Bunny being a member of the Inferior Five, and enjoy Empowered. I like the pretty kind hearted women who may be thought of as dumb, but are just misunderstood.

The Outsider works because you can have more with them messing up customs and destroying things because they don't know their own strength. Don't want superior intelligence because that gets too boring, makes things too easy.

Actually, there's a very good reason for the "Humanitarian" to wear a superhero costume—it inspires people.

Think about it, in the comics, Superman is always doing something for charity. Sponsoring telethons, making speeches, putting on spectacular displays of his amazing powers—all in order to inspire ordinary people to be heroes by giving to charities and doing volunteer work.

Very nice thread, and good to see the nice girls getting some attention for a change. Although some of the types mentioned could be slightly ambiguous (such as the paladin, good soldier and dark madden), especially since things are rarely as simple as black and white.

I do have a couple of ideas for other types myself, they do overlap slightly with some of the existing ones but I’ll add them anyway.

‘The Professional’

This is someone who is already used to helping people as part of their job. They might be a rescuer such as a fire-fighter or medic, but equally they might be someone how is used to protecting others like a police officer. Whatever their background, they always use their new found powers to do the same thing they always did, help others.

I see this as sitting between the Paladin and Humanitarian. While Paladin is mainly concerned with stopping bad guys and the Humanitarian to make people’s lives better, the Professional main priority is saving lives. Wherever there are natural (or un-natural) disasters she’s there, clearing the rubble and tending to the wounded. If she can catch those responsible or help to deal with the aftermath she will, but not at the expense of the immediate priority. Also due to her experience, she will likely be more ruthless when needed, and always make sure to keep whatever authorities are involved informed (along with listening to their advice).

‘The Altruistic Celebrity’

Not every Celebrity ends up as an egotistical nightmare. Some manage to keep their feet planted firmly on the ground despite all the chaos that goes on around them normally thanks to their friends and family. These Celebs are very aware of just how lucky they are, and are willing to use their time and profile to help others, often by doing lots of charity work. Now with her new superpowers, she can add stopping villains and rescuing people to her charity work (along with a new way to raze money, power demonstrations).

(I was specifically thinking about Rachel Stevens when coming up with this, but I’m glad you used her in the Humanitarian type, I’m sure she would be like this if she could)

Shame on me for not considering this archetype, especially since my first couple of decent characters were based on it.

Good call ~ the professional has always been a favorite of mine too.

From my past stories of old, prefered heroes, and videos I think that's clear. :D

Plus there is a shot that the heroine will be in a suit or a uniform for thier "day job" which is awsome too. Need to go find some pictures...

I think I have all the originals on my hard drive somewhere. I will check tomorrow.

Would it be better to edit the original post or add a new one with the fixed links?
