Honestly, I'm a little surprised people are so down on their older work.

It's what you were capable of at the time. It's proof that growing up/growing old doesn't entirely suck. That you can, through practice and effort GET BETTER. That we acquire experience as life goes on. Hell, I usually find I can improve upon my own text after only a few weeks of letting it cool.

I'm just not inclined to give my younger self shit for not being as adept and cunning as current me.

...Even if you all suck for not loving The Blacksite Affair as much as I do. :P

Agreed. I sometimes like the older work for the "rawness" as well. There is a certain passion that early writers have that I very much enjoy.

Some of my early stories were primitive and not that great but they were a start. And with Argo coaching me on how to improve them, they got better.

You know there is no accounting for taste but about once a year I go back and read lord of the blings. It pales in comparison to your more recent work, but I still enjoy it.
