SGI Workshop 1.3 Is On!!

08 Mar 2005 05:26 #385 by lfan
SGI Workshop 1.3 Is On!! was created by lfan
OK, all you budding and established ubergal authors out there, time for your next assignment, aka "SGI Fiction Workshop 1.3". The topic for this assignment (chosen by CF) will be "ubergirl vs ubergirl".

All stories must contain some element of two ubergirls either battling each other or collaborating together. Papers are due to LFan (larafan22@yahoo.com) no later than April 30th, when they will be collected and posted on SGI and/or the SWM Story Bank. Comedy/drama/tragedy take your pick! Established characters? Orignal creations? You decide! Just looking for originality and some good genre-based fictional fun!

Sorry to be a downer to some but the following themes/elements are not allowed: underaged characters, chloroforming, rape, or any other XXX-rated theme (you know what I'm talking about!)

So game on, people!

Ok, I'll consider joining in the fun (madness? :P ) this time around, if I have time.

So stupid question, but are these supposed to be full length stories? Mini-stories? Will just a scene with no background be accepted?

I tend to be pretty verbose, and I already had a previous idea for a super-strength character in my fantasy setting about people with magical (usually not strength related) powers, so I might start writing that, and give her an enemy who's also strong. But I'm not sure if I can write under a deadline. Or the deadline might just inspire me to write faster. Not sure yet... I'll let you know on May 1. ;)

Ata boy! (er...girl?)....

Regarding content length, there is no limit or expectation for submissions. To be honest, when I started these little workshops, I never expected the volumes of pages that people would submit. I was pleasantly surprised! But any "literary" effort put forth as long as it meets the guidelines will be deemed acceptable!

Cannot wait to see what you got in store!

Any other lurkers / authors up for it??

Well, I'm still fairly new at this. As I mentioned elsewhere in the forums, I've got this "21st Century Magic" idea for a series of stories, but apparently most of the stories I plan to write don't qualify as "ubergirl" as defined around here, because most of the superpowered women have a variety of powers, rather than just the typical superstrength. I just really got into writing the first story recently, although I've already got ideas for over a dozen different stories in the series.

In this case, I did have an idea for an "Supergirl" type of character, but I didn't really know what type of story I wanted to put her in. Seeing the challenge here to write an ubergirl vs ubergirl story got me thinking about an idea for a second interesting superstrength character, and coming up with an excuse to have them fight wasn't tough. I may even put in a third powerful female character, although she'll be powerful in a non-strength related way.

The one thing that some of you might not like is that this story is likely to have a lot more setup than action. I'm planning 2-4 chapters of origin stories for each of my two ubergirls before getting into the fight, which is likely to just be one long chapter.

Hopefully I'll be able to finish in time for the April 30 deadline. I tend to be a slow writer, although I do have a decent amount of free time right now to spend on it.

Ok, so now I'm eating those words. Three weeks ago, I wrote half of a chapter, and I haven't gotten back to it since. My life turned out to be busier than I anticipated, so I didn't have the free time that I expected.

Now that I'm returning to it, I do have a question regarding this:

Sorry to be a downer to some but the following themes/elements are not allowed: underaged characters, chloroforming, rape, or any other XXX-rated theme (you know what I'm talking about!)

I just want a clarification on what you consider XXX material. I definitely plan for at least one of my ubergirls to be sexually active, though I haven't started writing those scenes yet, so I don't know how explicit I want to be. I was thinking I'd shoot for rated R. My problem is that I'm not sure how much detail I want to include, and I don't know exactly where the line is that I'm not supposed to cross.

I noticed that stories for the current workshop can feature two ubergirls collaborating (instead of battling) ...

And whoever continues my strand of the interactive story will probably have to introduce an ubergirl confidante/mentor for Caramel Fox ...

SO -- Why doesn't somebody kill two birds with one stone by writing a workshop story that can be added to the interactive story?

An "ubergirls night out" story might be fun. (The interactive story has been pretty serious so far.)

I suggested this to Ultragirl, but she's got her hands full with the blogger right now, so I'm tossing the idea out to the SWM community at large.

While there are sexual overtones in a lot of the ubergirl stories here and on SGI (e.g. Chrissy McCallister and even SuperJen to name a few), showing the sensual (and sexual) side is a sideline to the 'story' in those instances. I guess that's what I mean. A story that places more description on "a superheroine's sexual organs" or "how deeply 'some shaft' penetrated her" than anything else prob is crossing the line as you say.

Use your best judgment, we're fairly progrressive -- just don't wanna turn the story workshop into a 'pink party'.....

Awwww.... well, there go half my ideas...

...I'll pull something from the other half.

Actually, I'm being lazy- I'm going to send larafan a story I had started but never finished for the 'vs. army' workshop, if I can figure out how to make it vs. an ubergirl instead.

Apologies, all, but it'll be another long one with prelude-of-pages-and-pages. If I have any short ideas, I'll submit a 2nd (more focused) story.

Any threads on SWM Forum I should read... since I was only recently reminded that everyone else still exists... (heh. again, sorry. It was college, honest. Yeah.)

Er... I just wrote a story that's another weird-supernatural one, but I like enough that I'd like to include it. But it's not the one I'm really working on... Do I have to pick my favorite or most appropriate story, or can I send in more than one?

Long as its ubergal-based and fits the theme and 'guidelines', you can send in as many as you want! Hope to see it soon!

Hey! I just notced the date. (Happens every couple of weeks when I briefly sober up....)

I make it 11 days until the deadline for the next Workshop. So, all contributors had better get writing. And if, like me, you haven't even started yet, good luck!

After the sad news of the demise of SGInc, every contribution to the genre takes on an even greater importance now. Let's hope there'll be plentry of entries to the Workshop.

Come on, everybody who can type!! Submit a story, any length, on the Workshop topic: Ubergirl vs ubergirl. [What genius chose that theme?]

At the risk of "doing a Delia" [apologies to non UK-residents - send me an email for an explanation of what "doing a Delia" means] Come on!! Let's be having you!!!

Now, where's my keyboard?

Yeah, there's no way this is going to happen. I wrote half a chapter more than a month ago, and I've been too busy to work on it since. I thought maybe the deadline would inspire me to action, but real life takes priority.

If I ever get around to finishing my story (which may not end up being ubergirl vs ubergirl themed now. I originally only planned the one ubergirl, but was going to add the second just for this contest), I'll be sure to share, but don't hold your breath. It could literally take years before that happens.

I bounce from one project to another. It's a wonder I ever complete anything...

I do have a couple story ideas waiting in the wings because I just couldn't fit a 2nd girl into the story. Maybe for next workshop, or just whenever I finish them.

I will have more than one submission for this one, but I dunno if any of them will feel complete, like my 1st story did. I don't think I can wrap them up so easily, and the 'short stories' I have on the back burner don't feel as interesting to me, so it's been hard to start them. Now I don't think I'll have the time- for this workshop.

YAGS- just finish it at some point. Doesn't have to be for a workshop. :)

Almost right, Concept. According to most calendars, it's actually Saturday.... So the deadline for entries to the SGInc Workshop 1.3 is midnight GMT on Sunday May 1st. Entries must be send either to Lfan or to webmaster@superwomenmania.com by then for inclusion in the Workshop poll.

All entries received on time will be posted in the SuperWomenMania StoryBank ( www.superwomenmania.com/storybank ) and a poll will be opened here on the SWM forums for people to choose their favourite.

(If anyone's thinking of entering a last-minute submission, the theme is "Ubergirl vs. Ubergirl". Stories can be any length, or format. They must feature the theme of Ubergirl vs. Ubergirl prominently. Entries are welcome from new and established writers.)
