Clausius was the guy with the red and white suit, kinda portly, lived up North?

Alrighty, fine. Looking for Unbreakable Laws: "The total entropy of a closed system may only remain the same or increase."--Newton.

-Paw.

Not Newton -- Clausius.

We haven't been playing the Quote Game for a while, but Lfan's post put me in mind of this bit of dialogue:

"Oh, that's in every contract. It's what they call a sanity clause."

"Ha! You can't fool me. There ain't no Santy Claus."

What classic movie is that from? ( Too easy ... )

Clausius, Carnot and Lord Kelvin were the "Kings" of 1800's thermodynamics. Spured by the industrial revolution, steam was king and led to great interest in steam engines and the physcial laws that governed them.

Newton was one sharp math guy from the 1600's

Hmmm ... maybe the question isn't as easy as I thought.

I haven't seen The Santa Clause -- If the writers used that gag, they swiped it from an older movie ... not Miracle on 34th Steeet (or any other Christmas-themed movie, for that matter).

Sorry, Albais and Ace -- neither of you gets any marks for your answer ...

Where's Brantley? I bet he knows.

I know I've heard this before. Sounds like something by the Three Stooges, but I don't think that's it.

I keep thinking that this is 30's or 40's line. Sounds like something that Groucho Marx would say in a a dialog with his brother. Let's try Captain Spaudling.

Can't you just hear Groucho Setting up Chico on this one?

I bet a quick internet search of their movies would solve it, but I will resist the temptaion and see if anyone else can get it.

For the life of me, I can't recall any of their movie titles, or even which one Captain Spaulding was in.

That's it. I was starting to wonder if I'm the only Marx Brothers aficionado hereabouts.

Groucho and Chico are negotiating a contract and wind up tearing out every clause (including the "sanity clause") until all that's left is a scrap of paper approximately the size of a postage stamp.

Captain Spaulding is Groucho's character in Animal Crackers. ("One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How it got into my pajmas I'll never know. Then I tried to remove the tusks, but they were so tight I couldn't budge them. Of course, in Alabama the Tuscaloosa ...")

A NIGHT AT THE OPERA.

"Hey, how come my contract's shorter than your contract?"

"You must have been out on a tear last night."

Huh?

Can anybody make up a Marx Brothers routine involving a supergirl?

This is quite possibly one the most interesting challenges I've seen in a while.

"I just saw Supergirl lifting an elephant in a short skirt! What an elephant was doing wearing a short skirt, I'll never know."
