Season 3 x 09 Reign was created by murdough
They've released the first trailer for the mid-season finale, titled Reign, slated to air in the states next Monday, December 4th. On top of that, an official description was released last week.

REIGN CHALLENGES SUPERGIRL – Supergirl investigates a mysterious symbol popping up all over National City, tracing its origins back to an ancient prophecy and the mark of the World Killer, Reign. Meanwhile, the tension between Lena and Morgan Edge continues to build, causing James to step in and offer up some protection, and possibly igniting a spark in the process.

Hoping Reign ends up kicking Morgan Edge's ass! After all, Sam is employed by Lena in a high-powered career. :)

A super powered villain with an alter ego. Fun! Hope it's not a one time tease and it means we'll get to see multiple sides of the character and perhaps a world killer that finds non physical ways to get her way - while also doing some punching or throwing. That's a really fun concept.

Don D'ammassa had this comment at Facebook on an episode he just caught up with:

<<Okay, episode 2 of supergirl. There's an oil fire at the docks so the fire department sprays water on it. Are they actively trying to find the worst possible writers?>>

At the very least Kara blows away the direction of the water on the fire from the rig above!

Yet despite some obvious special effects glitches, the writing this season is vastly better than previous seasons. They've really captured the essence of why people like comic books and are writing to that audience.

But then, comic books aren't exactly a bastion of refined literature or technical accuracy or even plausible SF, so you have to consider that. But it is a comic book inspired show, so it's appropriate that it's written accordingly, with an abundance of plot holes and magical implausibilities.

I think you have to have a deep love of comic books and their limitations and opportunities to truly appreciate the show this season. Which I do.

It ain't classic SF, where everything is written as tightly and plausibly as possible.

Not sure about that. She could have showed a little bit more weight/muscles for this role ... reaaaally too thin, look at those legs, they seem toothpicks

Ah, but Kryptonian toothpicks! Ursa wasn't portrayed by Sarah Douglas as being a hint of muscular but could easily lift one end of a bus.

Odette did say in a recent interview that she didn't work out very much if at all. Melissa comes from a dance background and most likely has some kind of regular workout routine.

My first thought was no way - so I ran to google - but I think you are right - Odette certainly has more fashion model than fitness model proportions. She looks really slender in some pictures. In some of the costume pictures she looks more curvy even with the black (which slims appearances further) leggings.

I still think they are both attractive women.

Just thinking about the choice of Odette as Reign. Meghan Markle, who has similar stunning looks to Odette, would have been a very interesting selection, considering who she is about to become...

Princess Reign indeed!

I wonder if Harry would have had a superheroine costume fetish for the royal bedroom?

Beauty being in the eye of the beholder and all, I must still say that Odette Annabel is far better looking the Meg Markle :D

If I was a Prince, I am sure I would have scored far better tbh :D

But each to their own :)

Peace.

which is supplemented/enhanced by the padding in her suit. guess they decided to go a different route with Reign as there appears to be no padding in her uniform

Yeah, Melissa as plain Kara in the office looks a bit thin compared with when she's in her 'buffed-up Disney look' costume.
I s'pose the new writers just had to run with it for continuity's sake, but I think they are going down the right route with their more realistic portrayal of Reign.

I also think MB might be down a few pounds and in better shape this season than in the past. Looks like it to me.

The padded costume thing seems a bit goofy and takes her the wrong way for me. She's got her own curves and muscles.

Slender and extremely fit always works for me when portraying superhumans who should have better muscle tone (and presumably definition) than humans.

But our imaginations all go down different paths. It's called fantasy for a reason.

Uh, it seems Reign is (as expected) stronger than Supergirl. She almost wasn't feeling any of the hits from Kara, while Kara started to have injuries and bleeding after a while.

ps. Did I notice a reference to Batman in the previous gang members scene ?

That was a great episode, and a great mid-season finale imo :)

Reign was absolutely badass

But before I get to that, I just want to comment on the episode itself.

To me, this season has been outstanding. So much better then both the previous ones combined, and for me, there are a couple of reasons for this.

Firstly, I think the writers have found the correct tone for the show. Its witty, its melodramatic, its funny, and it can be gritty, all in the right combination.

Secondly, the writers seems to get the characters in the show. Everyone is used in just the right way, for just the right amount of time. Even James, who I pretty much despise, has morphed into a solid character imo.

The relationship that has been building up since the season began with Lena, got a payoff in just the right way. It wasn’t overblown, it wasn’t rushed. It felt like an organic conclusion, that while obvious to a certain extent, clicked.

And that is the best thing this season has gotten right. The pacing of the story.

Nothing this season has felt rushed, everything has been given room to breath and flow naturally. The inclusion of Mon-El and the introduction of the Legion; the introduction of Samantha and her evolution of Reign; the introduction of Jo’nn’s father (and his thematic tie to faith and thus Reign); the introduction of the preacher (and the religion of Krypton); and so on.

All have played out perfectly, culminating (so far) in tonights episode.

And what an episode.

This was always going to be about seeing what Reign is capable of, and the writers didn’t fail to deliver imo.

The slow build up, brilliantly done. The timing of it, setting around the festive season, was a great touch. And the handling of all the characters was really well done. All got a moment in the episode and none of it felt forced.

And of course, the finale.

I’m just gonna come out and say it, but Supergirl got her ass kicked!

But this felt different. It was more visceral, more impactful. I really think they did a good job choreographing this fight. It wasn’t overblown and felt more realistic for it. There was a touch or two of some nice humour in the directing, it went back and forth, and above all, it was raw.

It felt like a street fight between two titans. Right down to the headbutt Reign gives Kara (what a great moment). And then, dropping her like a trash bag off the rooftop, like “pfft is that all you got?”

Great performances all round from the cast (especially Odette, who I must confess have really grown to love this season).

The only down side is we have to wait until the new year for the continuation :D

Bravo Team Supergirl. High-Five, big hugs all round! You have pulled off an AMAZING transformation in the show.

I so look forward to seeing how this season will go :)

Keep up the stellar work!

Peace.

Bravo Supergirl!

Man! What an episode!
This season is everything I have been looking for.
Reign is a top notch CHARACTER not just as disposable villain.

When she went after the One Seven gang and Morgan Edge that was a bit of the human woman coming out.
There lies the character I was talking about.
She maybe a superweapon but there is something else deep down inside.

The climatic battle in National City was better than just about anything I have ever seen before.
Two powwerhouses just going at it.

Don't get me wrong.
There is nothing deep here.
Supergirl is defeated.
She will have to fight for her own life and a soul search.
The other heroes will have to step up.
She will come back stronger.

Once again BRAVO Team Supergirl!
Wonderful.
