Official Top 5 Stories Thread

Official Top 5 Stories Thread was created by lfan
While it's hard to draw a cutoff line at five, I thought it would be fun to start a thread on our favorite ubergirl stories. Yes, we've done this before, but not in a while and with many new members on board -- and so many new stories now in the library -- it will be interesting to see people's picks. The only two three rules are:

a) You cannot pick you own stories
b) You cannot pick more than 5. If you do, you're SWM account will be terminated. Just kidding, but just pick 5! ;)
c) UPDATED: You don't have to pick specific chapters in multi-chapter stories like The Project or Serena. If the characters AND the author are the same, it can count as one "story"

Here are my top 5:

#5 Milena by Conceptfan
Hard to pick my favorite among CF's classics but I think I'd have to pick Milena. Could be the fact it was his "first" or maybe the fact that it's told in first person in diary format. Regardless, the story of how a Mob Bosses daughter is granted superpowers and goes on a rampage is definitely great fodder for ubergirl lovers.

#4 Serena by Yosh
Serena has probably one of the best, if not THE best, transformation scenes in ubergirl lore. Paragraph after paragraph of fantastic detail of Serena's transformation is what makes this story, along with Serena's testing of her abilities on the beach. Sadly, Serena abruptly ended with little closure, leaving us all hoping a continuation would ensue. Sadly, it never did ... and we should probably stop bugging Yosh now :)

#3 Christina McCallster by 007
Super spy by day and ubergirl author by night, 007 is one of those mystery writers that wrote two amazing stories (CMac and Janine) and then faded out into the shadows of the internet. Cmac holds a dear place in my heart because it, as much as any other story, got me into genre writing. I still remember when I saw it posted on Diana the Valkyrie's site with the description "She has the strength of five men" and thinking "this might be good" as I clicked the link and was awestruck by the reading of it. Spoiler Alert: she's a LOT strong than 5 men......

#2 Super One by MarkNew
What list would be complete without one of the great authors of our genre, Marknew. While this might have been hard for some because of Marknew's great stories, it was rather easy for me. Not because I didn't like his others (I DO very much),, but because Super One resonated on a different level with me. The action of girls hurling locomotives I s nice and I love that too, but Marknew has the ability to make simple things like playing scrabble, driving and even juggling so incredibly sensual and imagery-filled. Super One is your typical Marknew trope (e.g. guy trying to achieve great power mistakenly gives it to girl), but done with brilliant setup, descriptions, and dialog. If that doesn't convince you I like Super One, then look no further to my stories which have so many nods to Marknew stories or scenes (e.g. Chosen One is homage to Super One, pixie dust scene in Tink, Tink, Boom was a nod to Andrea's "powerup scene" in Super One, etc.)

#1 Deep Down Inside by Circes_Cup
Reading ubergirl fiction for a while now, I thought I'd seen the best the genre had to offer. Then a few years ago, this new author posted a few chapters of a story called Deep Down Inside. The first few chapters were mostly "ugly duck" transformations into beautiful girls who used their sexuality as their superpower. Very sensual in nature, I liked it but had hoped for a much deeper (and super) transformation. Oh well. Little did I know that those four chapters were merely laying the groundwork for a superpowered ascension of almost godlike proportions for the 4 protagonists. 40+ chapters later, chock full of pages of sexiness and superness, it now serves atop my list of favorite ubergirl stories of the genre. As it came to a conclusion, I was left with regret that we wouldn't hear from Vicky, Tammy, Kim, or Louisa any more......

OK, that's my list. Looking back on it, I guess some will think I violated the "only 5" rule by treating multi-volume tales like Serena, Milena, and DDI as "stories" when they were multiple chapters. So, I guess we can use that as a loophole now. :P

Who's next?

ooh everyone loves lists!

I can't rank them, so I'll just list them in the order I think of first

Dark Supergirl, by Shadar
Shadar was my first introduction to the genre, which is only appropriate since I'm pretty sure he is the one who started it all! It was between this one, and another one he more recently wrote, but I can't remember the title and can't find it on the site.

Stupendous Girl, by GeekSeven
Just pure fun which then transcended into intrigue.

Milena's Diary, by ConceptFan
Or nearly anything by Cf

Deep Down Inside, by circes_cup
This one started out a bit rough for me, since I found all characters unlikable and kind of indistinguishable, but maybe it was just me. Obviously I love it now, since it's on the list! They do have very distinct personalities, there's redemption, and I can't believe how quickly circes_cup cranked this out.

I'm having trouble picking just one more, so I won't. Please don't terminate my account lfan!

Conceptfan was my first real introduction to the genre about 12 years ago. So the top two for me would have to be;

#1 The Super Models, especially Kirsty the dumb blonde with all that power.

#2 Randolph and Kim. A real rollercoaster ride of a story with good depth, planting the seeds of the story 40-50 years earlier.

I'll have to think on the others

I was interested in where Conceptfan would pick up with Kim recently. Would it be 10 years on with a mid-twenties Kim, superpowerful Superhuman Queen of the World (sorry, phone cut out). As it turns out it's the next morning. Would be interesting if he moves the models on ten years to the present day, after all they won't have aged a day since their transformation... B)

Thanks for the mentions, guys. I operate in a very narrow niche (exclusively evil, mostly pornograhic) inside a small niche (superfemales), inside a niche (powerful/dominant women) so it's a special thing to be able share my niche3 fetish with like-minded folks. Viva SWM!

Picking only 5 is ridiculously unfair. I was tempted to duck out and use the restriction as an excuse because of what I'd have to leave out...

In no order whatsoever:

"Dark Supergirl Arises" by Shadar. Totally inspired me in many ways ;) , made me realise that my weird fantasies overlapped with other people's. I found Mandi when I first had solo time with a 14k dial up modem and thought I'd check out this internet thing and see if it had anything of real interest for me... Without exaggeration, this story arc made a big impression on my life. Shadar's work is amazing, before you start to give credit for pioneering.
"Julie" by AK. Another author I discovered back in the dial-up days. I adore the Julie epic and can't put into words what the chapters featuring the character Sirren mean to me. I love all of AK's works but Sirren haunts my dreams and made me want to share my own take on the evil supergirl.
"Mob Girl" by Dru. Great character, great situations, well told. Can't really ask for more than that. All Dru's stuff is wonderful but as I have to pick a "fave", I'll go for Emily.
"Jilly Milly" by Marknew. Again, I hate to have to pick just one of his series, but I'm scared of Lfan. Marknew has a unique "take" on the world, particularly male/female relationships. His girls show power through personality in a way that really appeals to me. He brilliantly contrasts feminine power with masculine powerlessness and that is a very very good thing IMO.
"The Project" by DKC. Aleesha is just magnificent. She is exactly what I love, beautifully depicted.

There's loads more I love. These five are both superbly well written and, not to put too fine a point on it, sexy as f**k in my eyes. There are some superb writers on these forums whose stories I've really appreciated as works of fiction and the only reason I didn't choose them for this list is because they only got me a semi or less. Shallow, I know. In real life I pretend to be deeper. Sorry if I have offended by omissions. Blame LFan. I definitely would have included "Formula 145" (the story that became the Awakening) if I'd been allowed 6 choices. But we only get five, so Lf will have to live with the irony.

Please, everybody, write more great stories so that making this kind of list gets even harder in future.

My goal was to make your top 6, CF! But just to burst your bubble a bit, a small correction --- Lara became "The Awakening", not Formula 145. :p

Not an easy list to make... And since some have already mentioned a few that I'd pick, I'll go for ones not yet mentioned...

And so, in no particular order:

1. Superior Girl by AK... Certainly a big influence on me.

2 More than Mortal by JNW550... I always enjoy JNW's ideas.

3. Hostile Takeover by Conceptfan... I like all Conceptfans stories. This was the first of his that I read, and I haven't read any story from him that I didn't really enjoy.

4. The Artifact by Steelknight3000... I like that Liz is neither good or evil...she just wants to have fun and I don't think anyone could hold that against her.

5. Brandi by Marknew... This one had a big impact the first time I read it, and I go back to it every now and then.

There are many others... Some of which are in other lists here already. Circes, Happiest in Shadows, Greyface, and many others deserve a spot as much as any I have mentioned.

in no particular order:

The Perilous Parasite by Dr. Muttenchops- The best i think of his Superwoman series-A fun delightful romp, in a 40s mlleau full throwback adventure and excitement-and the ending-but manages to be a both very cartoony and very touching at the same time. In all of his jokes comicbook refrences and oldtimey fun he managed to make Clara a character you cared about and felt for-which is a mean trick.

Stupendously Evil Girl by Geek Seven-Loved the Calender Girl Series a lot-it had a lot of fun jokes with the idea of what it would be like to have a woman of godlike power in your world who may be more alien then you want but the scary part is shes *trying*. This one took that fear to a logical place, and played with the idea of a being of infinite power and how you should really be in utter terror of it-even if well you love it at the same time-which is the perhaps the scariest thing of all .

Crusader of Courage by CaveManNinjaJoe - Oh though they don't come sillier then the Crusader Series-tales of a Superhero in a world without much of a forthwall who gets upstaged by his love intrest-but they don't come much better either. Oh poor Crusader- the world is so agianst you, even your own narrator. But you keep going you just keep going.

Little Firebug by Shadar- I don't think Shadar has much opinion of his early works. I do. Sex, Aliens, Superstrength-these power are fantasies yes, and not very complicated but like something like a book by Robert Howard they reach the sublime, the awesome, the amazing-they have a power beyond the stuff he stole from Niven. When Niven wrote that to krpytonians the opposite sex was Kleenex he was joking.. Shadar wasn't and if only because they come from such a passionate mind that it has its power-And that in some small way it lives on. My inspiration. Without him for better or a worse there probably wouldn't be a Castor.

Guns of the Highlands by WoodClaw-The best in my mind pure action story on the site. The story of a Supersolder in World war, you feel for her as she fights her way through an army of germans who may be a threat for and she considers such-she may not be the most powerful heroine but she is the most willful-she knows fear and dirt and loss-but she keeps going anyway. More even the most Captain America Stories even 100 million dollar movies that this was clearly inspired because there is humanity in her-which makes the leaping jumping bombs and explosions really hit.

ElF

Will say this-like the ending of Serena-yeah its obviously a story that probabbly was intended to go further-but at the same it is a story about transformation and change, one that spends a lot of time setting up a friendship that well...in the last paragraph is about to change

. Its a cliffhanger but pretty well realized one-really when you look back what the relationship and the tensions around it are really the only conflict of the story- there isn't monsters or aliens or any of it-just a young woman who gains power and wonders how it will effect the world around her and the people she cares about. For all the talk about how it changes her body its more about how it changes her mind and these relationships- after all the details about her abs and her boobs-to go out here on a dot dot dot, kind of works for it my book.

This is shaping up to be a really interesting thread: it has called my attention to some stories that I may have overlooked... and is therefore expanding my reading list!

I'm glad ElF decided to start this conversation. At 600+ stories, this SWM's archive is a huge resource for people interested in the genre. But on a day-to-day basis, it tends to get very little attention relative to other forum topics. This conversation gives us all a good excuse to go back and dust off those oldies-but-goodies.

I'm working on my own favorites list now, but I'm not sure how I'll get it down to five!

In no particular order:

Infinity Crisis by DKC- Even though it’s not finished and it’s not likely to be, it still ranks in the top five for me.

Not the One by Dru - I remember reading the original on DtV years ago. It hit all the spots I love in a story. I thought it was one of the best stories I’d ever read at the time, and Dru only improved it more.

Deep Down Inside by Circes_Cup- What can I say DDI was/is an awesome story. Again it hit all the points I personally like, but having said that it was a hard choice between The Amy Dilemma which is an amazing story in it’s own right.

Star seed series by Kurt Logan - an old series. it may show my lowbrow taste, but I remember reading and re reading every very violent chapter. It may not exactly be what I’m after at this point in life but fuck it I like what I like.

Randolph and Kim by Concept Fan - It’s so very hard to have to pick only one CF story, but I narrowed It down to Plan 8 From Outer Space and Randolph and Kim and maybe it was because R and K was just updated but that's my choice.

My top five has more than five... but I don't want to be terminated. my favorites tend to crossover with other fantasies, be muscles, beyond reason racks, mind control. They have a multiplying effect to me.

Fun and Games from grayface. I love the characters, they felt real. I felt like I met those stoners dealing with an amazonic superpowered bitchy friend.

It’s a Super World from April Ames. Presented to me by a friend here. Christina Hendricks, I mean, Heather Hendricks dealing with wrestling queen turned ruler of the world

Strong Woman's almanac by hardnstrong. The fragmented structure is intriguing and Janet's character is the kind of discreet villainess

Megagirl part 3 by searaven. Dumb superheroine and a reasonable brother vs mean little sister plot that I can't grow tired of.

Bigger breasts = more psychic power from chasbanner. While its primary element is boobs, and their growth, I find the demonstrations of Anna's and the sisters powers pretty smart

Nice to have those lists, some older stories deserve to be in the spotlight!

#5 : Latexxa by ManRam : Very good transformation sequence and a female lead that reminds me a lot the typical Conceptfan's super-heroine : sexy, careless and off-course SUPERPOWERED.

#4 : Amazing Grace: The Fall of Superman by Nomans Land. A very unknown and underrated story that I found by pure luck on DTV. This one features everything that Marknew lovers enjoy : a dominant and manipulative female who starts by seducing and ends up stealing the power of the Man of Steel.

#3 : Serena by Yosh. Enough said on this topic already : Simply the best story regarding transformation descriptions and power display.

#2 : SuperJen by Larafan : One of the first story I read on the old SGINC website and that made me come back for more. Well-written, fun and sexy. The comics pages that came later were the icing on the cake!

#1 : Powerfemme by Marknew and Searaven. This one story made me enjoy the "Muscle Growth" part that I strongly disliked in the genre at the beginning. This one is a masterpiece, it combines all the rights elements : Female teasing, power-transfer, latex bodysuit and some astounding details during the transformation of the two goddesses.

ABX by Marknew - Who knew that so much mayhem could come from just one blueberry muffin! Marknew's stories are very consistent: they all have similar themes, are all very well written and fun to read. Therefore, it's hard to pick just one. But of everything Marknew has done, ABX has become my favorite: believable characters and a plot that builds tension and momentum as it progresses. I always enjoy re-reading this one.

Kiraling by Anonxyzus - I'm not going to describe this story. If you don't know what it's about -- and you like the SWM genre at all -- then this is a story you need to read. Just read it.

A Little Bit of Fun by conceptfan - For those of you that like a little dark and evil, no one delivers a stiffer dose than conceptfan. His characters are unabashed, pure evil. He stories are very consistent in quality and theme, so it's hard to pick just one. In this particular story, an alien race of superstrong beings has the good sense to declare transporter devices off limits. That way, the members of their super race cannot visit and endanger worlds populated by the weak. But when two precocious teenagers get their hands on one such device, they decide there's not harm in having... a little bit of fun.

Sally's Game by Arie (on Brawna) - For those of you that like strong girls that are also large and muscular, this author on Brawna is one to watch. Arie's women are larger and more powerful than men, but their power actually leads women's relationships with men to be more trusting rather than less, more affectionate rather than less. Sally's Game is Arie's latest complete work, and in my opinion, it's his best. However, he has a new story that is in-process now and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Retribution series by Heather Effect - It's a comic, but it's still a story! Like everything else from Heather Effect, it was available for purchase only. And now that the site has gone dark, it may not be available even on a purchase basis. If you like the dark and evil side of the supergirl genre, the Heather Effect comics were in a league of their own. The Retribuion series was particularly good: a pair of evil supergirls pull an inside job on a league of superheroes, slowly dismantling them while recruiting even more evil to their ranks. I can only hope I have a chance to someday see more comics produced by this team.

OK, so that's five. But I've got a much longer list of favorites, including stories by Dru, Grayface, Castor, Lfan, Shadar, GeekSeven, TwiceOnThursdays, AK and others. Someday when I have the time, I'll pick my next 10-15 favorite stories and post that list as well.

I find it very funny that this thread got so many responses, given that threads like this resurfaced every couple of years, but rarely with this intesity.

Now for my pick, I'm going in no particular order and they're likely to be quite a few ex aequo -- since I'm going to pick my favourite for each style.

Serena by Yosh

Plain and simply this is the story that hooked me into the genre, without the first two chapters (and LFan's Awakening) posted on SGInc back in the day I wouldn't be here any longer. The fact that Yosh pretty much set the bar for transformation scenes is for me a really big extra.

Infinity Crisis by DKC / Selene by G7 / Stealing from a Thief by Dru

Arguably one can say tha ConceptFan is the master of the evil ubergirl genre around here, but for some reason his stories never really clicked with me. I don't know exactly why, but I guess it had something to do with how seriously his narrative seem most of the time. For me these three authors managed to take that same ideas in much funnier and more enjoyable direction.

Turnabout is Fair Play by Ace191 and The Supergirl of Smallville by Team AceNaut

As a rule of thumb I'm not a fan of the pre-crisis DC Universe, being a 80's child I grew up mostly with stories based on the post-crisis continuity, so I usually skip those stories that are based on the older version of the characters. Argo and Ace managed to make me interested in that style of stories which is no small feat. I consider TSoS to be their magnus opus, but I felt obliged to included Turnabout even if only for the excellent ending.

Super Secret Agent by JKIJ

I don't know what is about this story, but it just clicked with me. Over the years I've come to unlike the Bond franchise, so I wasn't so keen on this story at first, but after the first page I was hooked in 100%. This story has class and manage to do one of the hardest things: adding a supergirl to a franchise without breaking the mold completely. It's a shame that JKIJ only published a few stories so far and I really hope he would return.

Blind Date by Njae and Ascension by Taliesan

Both these stories touches one of the key elements of the genre for me: the human side. Our genre is a power fantasy most of the time so we tend to think of our characters mostly in terms of powers and power stunt. Stories like these are interesting for me because who the characters are as persons is more important of what powers they have.

I would like to end this with a couple of notes, I had to left out a lot of storie and authors I like, in particular I purpotedly left out anything related to the Aurora Universe. I meant no offense to Shadar, Brantley, Velvet and all the other excellent authors that worked on it, but I consider the greatest feature of the AU how intertwined the various storylines are, so I consider unfair to pick one over another.
