I haven't seen the DVD of The New Frontier -- Darwyn Cooke's re-imagining of the DC Universe of the 1950's -- but I just read the comic book published in conjunction with it.
Usually when DC or Marvel cranks out a comic book as a movie tie-in, the result is somewhere between so-so and crap. But this one is worth picking up. It's not a comic-book version of the movie; it's three original stories set in the "New Frontier" universe -- all by Darwyn Cooke, and all good.
SWManiacs will especially enjoy the third story -- a six-pager in which Wonder Woman and Black Canary crash the opening of a Playboy Club. The art is cartoony, but the story is a hoot. Check it out.
P.S. Cooke's run on The Spirit, sadly, has come to an end -- but if you weren't reading it, I recommend that you pick up a back issue or two (or wait for the inevitable TPB). There's no ubergirl content as such, but the series does feature a number of smart, strong, beautiful women. Try it!
