Mae (Matrix) era as Lex Luthor's girlfriend
1) He's always putting her through various tests to try
to figure out how her biology works. As expected, she's REALLY healthy.

2) More testing...

3) Lex sends her out to basically seduce the cloned
Superman (Superboy?) into working for them:

4) It appears she's got his attention:

5) And at a very sexy dinner, he agrees. Who
could turn her down?

6) Lex showing off his girlfriend for the TV cameras.
She's definitely strong:

7) And a classic shot, likely also done for demonstration
purposes as she redoes the famous Samson scene:

8) Doing her thing to rescue Lex:

9) Another part of the rescue. They weren't afraid to put
muscles on her back in this series.

They tried again with the more limited Linda Danvers/Supergirl hybrid which did much better in sales during the middle and late 90's. Kind of a tuned-down Matrix that was focused on teenage angst and supernatural stuff.
And, of course, they'd now gone with an edgier Kryptonian model for SG now, which doesn't resonate as well with me as I'd expected it to. But its selling OK.
I think the high point of SG comics might have been that Luthor and Supergirl miniseries. And they left a lot on the table there.
I'm dabbling around with rewriting that time period in a series of stories that would be R-rated, but we'll see if it works well enough to see the light of day.

You're right, there is still something missing from the current SG. I do think the direction now is correct and there is potential again. The start was certainly a bit of a mess. I'm all about an evil SG twin as a plot device ~ but not until I actually like and know the "hero."
On point two: I also agree they left a lot on the table and this might be the strongest SG to date. It's what the movie could have been ~ rather than a 100% cutsie fluff piece that has its merits maybe but... ...eh.
I could never get into the Danvers character. I know some people love it, and I liked it at the start, but then there was too much earth angel, wally, and depowered mumbo jumbo.
If you show off your writting I know you'd have a few happy readers ~ at least one right here for certain.

Let me see what I can do with banging out a few chapters... just to see if it will stick to the wall. Be aware, however, that it'll have an 'R' edge to it.

I'm sure that's completely unacceptable in this community
