With all the hype surrounding Wonder Woman, I guess that most people forgot that today 70 years ago debuted one of the toughest lady on side of angels: Black Canary.

Definitely one of the great female superheros, though criminally underused in some cases. On TV, she's been portrayed by several beautiful actresses. In this century, the first was Alaina Huffman who was a recurring presence in Smallville's later seasons.

Then we have had three versions of the character in the so-called Arrowverse. The first who appeared in costume was Sara Lance as played by Caity Lotz. She started as first simply the Canary before being killed off. To honor her, the mantle was picked up by her older sister Laurel played by Katie Cassidy, formally taking the name Black Canary. Following her resurrection the following season, Sara took the name White Canary and is still a regular on DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

Before Laurel died last season, she made Oliver Queen promise her that the mantle of Black Canary would continue on. Enter Dinah Drake, played by Juliana Harkavy. A former undercover cop who gained the ability emit a sonic scream, she worked as a solo vigilante before being approached by Oliver. After a period of training and field work under the name Canary, Laurel and Sara's father Quentin formally gave Dinah his blessing for her to use the Black Canary name in Arrow's recent season finale.

Lastly, we have Black Siren. An alternate universe counterpart to Laurel Lance(and portrayed again by Katie Cassidy). She first appeared last season on the Flash as a one-off villain before coming back in the tail end of Arrow's recent season. She's currently slated to appear as a regular on the next season of Arrow, so we'll see where her arc takes her(if anywhere, given the show runner's preference for an upjumped IT tech)
