Unusual ad with invisible 1961 Impala, sort of like Wonder Woman's invisible jet
What a hoot. The 1961 Impala. That was the year after they trimmed the wings off the Impala's and turned them from being graceful and beautiful to ugly, boxy. Nobody wanted to look at the new Impala's, but they were awesome cars to go cruising in, even better than the winged Impala's.
Which made the invisible car commercial so great. They sold the greatness of cruising, and except for a blink at the end, didn't show the profoundly ugly car.
Neat special effects given they had to hang the actors by wires. Filming meant exposing silver-oxide film with a 24fps shutter, and special effects editing didn't exist except by cutting up film and taping it back together in the Cutting Room.
