Hi all. It's been a fair bit of time, but Natasha and I are moving ahead with Super Cher Noble, planning to shoot a series of 15 minute shorts that would eventually stitch together into a feature. A couple of SWMr's have been super supportive and, well, we're diving in . Would you take a look at the costume design and see what you think? We're working with Abby from Cape & Cowl to create it. The original drawings are Natasha's. Here are the original pencils and what we came up with with Abby.

Attachment Screen Shot 2015-06-02 at 3.44.08 PM.png not found

Cher Noble is a superheroine forged in the Chernobyl disaster, revived in modern times to fight evil.
Super Cher Noble will be portrayed by actress Natasha Blasick. Written and directed by yours truly, Martin Blasick (we're married in real life)

Cher will have the powers of flight, invulnerability and super strength. Also a heat vision and a "blast" she conjures by wrapping herself into her cape and then exploding it. She needs to recharge to keep strength. Dr. Z is the biggest villain - an arrogant mad scientist. They both worked at Chernobyl. His revolutionary but failed power experiment is what caused the famous accident and ended up forming Super Cher Noble. He's never been able to duplicate his brilliant experiment. With Cher's revival he knows she carries the secret of unlimited power as part of her being, and he'll stop at nothing to get it. He got old in the decades gone by, but Cher is still the same. He always had the hots for her in the creep kinda way. He's even more creepy now. There's also a sexy villainess named Zazzy who's get demented superpowers a few episodes on.

Natasha is from Ukraine in real life. That's where the Chernobyl connection comes from.

We are loving the costume. We had a great session with Abby yesterday and were planning on going shopping for materials tomorrow. But...just maybe it's alright if I ask for your thoughts. SCN is a super heroine and this is SWM :-)

-There's an empty place for her ensignia on her chest, so that spot will have something. I'm thinking of a letter "C" artistically blended with the atomic diagram.
-On her hip is a tiny twig with a single leaf that grows out of her. It's from her transition into being nuclear powered. It's covered by a little glass covering. It's bright turquoise when healthy.

I realize this is kinda long. And it's an original character. But we really love her and want to bring her to life.

Looks intresting as a costume, though like most modern superhero stuff for movies-the secret is the fabrics. choosely wisely there. and you have something. something that looks practical and thoughtout. going cheep on that is going to make it look like halloween(which yeah some of the costumes you see in the low budget movies look like)

I love the back story so far and Natasha looks the part alright.
I could easily see her as a superhuman.
And i love her dark hair.

The costume:
I love the color and the asymmetrical design. It is a very fresh and fashion forward.
The shoulder pad seems very clunky and unnecessary. Breaks up the whole flow of the outfit.
I would drop that unnecessary piece.
She is invulnerable right?
Why would she need armor.
Will her boots have heels?

Good luck with this project.
Looking forward to some kind of teaser.

Martin --

Thx for posting! You already have my input, but I just gotta say how exciting it will be to see Natasha as a superheroine. As someone said, she has a great look and would look good fighting crime wearing a garbage bag (though you probably don't wanna go that route).

Everyone else, now is your chance to give some input --- good and bad --- on the ground floor so to speak. They were looking to our community for some honest feedback so I hope a lot will let them know your opinions

The boots will have heels, not be flats. This is a great time to go over this before it's set in stone.

The twig idea goes back to when we first dreamed up the character. Natasha and I can't remember whose idea it was.

During her nuclear transformation, decades in the making in the isolation of the ruins of Chernobyl, Cher went into a stasis, fusing with Dr. Z's invention . The invention is an unlimited power source. But, the experiment was a failure and never was duplicated despite the lifelong efforts of Dr. Z.

The twig is a physical manifestation of the unique process. It is bright turquoise when she's healthy. It withers when she's weak. She needs to recharge with the device which survived to this day. Dr. Z wants it, and her. The whole thing only works when they are both present. Since the twig is part of her, Cher will die if it is removed.

Scott, we chatted and I know you're against the twig being a part of her body. I thought it's a cool idea. But it is fiction and things can be nudged around at this point to set up the story. I could make it so that the mysterious device supercharged her blood. Just thinking as I type on that oneā€¦.

Your comments mean a lot to us. We're talking a big leap going into this. I'm currently writing the whole story arc from which each episode will be derived.

I like the twig, and i like the location of the twig-which would be my comment for it.

While i think the center of the chest is a little bare..i am not sure i would do an insgmia there..it just seems a little obvious and superflucious. Maybe like a zipper or buttons or even just a strange sew or something to go with its patchwork feel. And Certainly not A C. Why would a russian Superhero have A "C"? Cyrlic.

For a chest emblem I like the one you have in the sketch.
The Heart and Nuclear Atom design.
It's a cool symbol showing Life and Power.

So we are sticking with the shoulder pad then?

Looks promising. A few thoughts.

I would move the blue shoulder-pad down, making it a cuff around the bicep anchoring the white sleeve but also continuing the line down from her left shoulder. plus having a bare shoulder will offer some opportunity for nuzzling :).

Depending on the cut of the material you may want some sort of belt or ties to draw the suit in at the waist and highlight the 'neck' of the hourglass.

The shape and color of the boots ends up being a little too derivative of the iconic Wonder Woman boots. I think you could better echo the pattern of the bracers by moving the peak to the side instead of the front. I would also be very attentive to using a different material/texture on the red elements - either the white or the red should have some shine (and the other be matte) so that they pop as she moves through various light sources (and not just because of the color contrast).

I'd also move away from cool colors on the cape. The white/red base might blend better with a warmer shade (gold?)

Not much I can say about the costume design, the overall looks good and solid, but some of the details put me off. In particulat the wrapped belt look of the should pad make it look very unnatural to me, something that looks great on a comic book page, but not so much in RL. I would much prefer a solid pad, which would also make a nice spot for the symbol as well. Also I think that the cape might need a bit of work, since the attachment looks a little off in the first picture, as if she has some kind of cover on the back of her neck

The one thing that I really don't like though is the name, I can see the pun, but it really sound like a bad one to me. I don't know why, but unless there's areally good explanation in story I think you should try something different.

Costume looks great, however the right shoulder could be a trouble if she move. The design is not bad, but think about how move the right arm can be a problem. Mix with supergirl and power girl, interesting in a way for me. Maybe the logo on stomach?

Story in Ukraine, special and promising. Like the idea.

Good luck with the project.

So she "blasts" by exploding her cape? Does that destroy the cape? Not a big fan of cape loss.

Not sure what to say on the rest of the costume. Hoping to see it on Natasha. If you're her husband, Martin, you're very lucky. She looks great, based on her IMDB photos.

Good to see an original superheroine character. If she has to recharge to keep strength, do super strength displays weaken her? How does she recharge? I think the Super Cher Noble character sounds great, but I am one of those that's new to her. I don't recall hearing about her before, anyway.

I like the concept of the costume, but if you are going to shoot video, you may need to give up a little fashion for practical considerations. I am a huge fan of high heeled boots for still pictures, but for action shots like running, fighting or jumping the are terrible and may lead to an injury to the actress. I think you can get away with a 1 inch flat heel. You may want to get Random's input on that as he has more experience with this than most. You will note that CBS is having MB wear Flats, and with all the action scenes, it is pretty clear why that is. Next issue is the cape. You need a two point attachment and it is not clear from the picture just how you plan to attach it. I think you can leave the right shoulder pad on and attach the cape to the back of the uniform. She will not be able to wear a low neckline in the rear, but I do not think it will take away from the plunging neck line in the front. Rather than have the cape go 1/2 way around her neck I would suggest that she wear a loose fiting band around her neck that is not attached to the cape that is secured by velcro in the back and is made of the same material as her cape.

As far as the asymmetrical look goes, that is an issue of your own fashion sense, but the lower on her right, higher on her left lines would be pretty unique and would also be a signature. Is her costume suggesting that she is a little "off" or slightly "unbalanced?" That might strike a bit of fear in evil doers that she confronts. For the Insignia,
I would consider a Girddle at the waist. They tend to really acentuate a womans curves.

I am not sure what you have in mind with the blasts from her cape or how you will do the special affects, but I would assume that she is generating some kind of energy field around herself and using the cape to contain it and then she opens her cape up in the front and sends the energy blast out at the target.

Just my 2 cents worth and I hope you have a lot of sucess with this project.

I'm afraid I can't really give to much of an opinion on the costume. Fashion is not my strongest trait by a long shot :(

Suffice to say, whatever you come up with, my money is ready to go. Look forward to what you come up with :)

Peace.

This project looks awesome! Natasha is really stunning.

Regarding the costume, my opinion : The costume and art look very fresh and appealing. My only suggestion is on the gloves, I'd love to see whole gloves rather than mitt.

I really like the concept of your superheroine and her origin story and I'm already liking your sexy villainess Zazzy! Do you already know who's gonna play this part ?

my view is that I like it,
you should be bold in the design, go with heels, if it needs to be low heels then go with a kitten heel. but flats are not the way it should be, next thing is the twig idea, again go with it, better to be bold than copy the sg/sm clones any day of the week.

the designs have a 80's feel to them which is no bad thing.

It also helps that Natasha is stunning, much better than the cosplay models that are out there, so that will also help.

So in short, be bold.

Great news!
If you guys need help and advice about the special effects you let me know.
The general idea of the superheroine and her origin sounds awesome but please be sure not to rush the plot because, in the end, it's what really matters.
Im talking about the supervillain in particular. In this genere, the most dangerous and common of the pitfalls is lack of originality. It sounds like a he's kinda linear too.
Remember that the budget of a small production has doesnt allows it to compete with the monster productions in visual impact, and it will be forced to be enganging to the audience in the story aspects in order to make the people stay tuned.
In this forum we have many awesome writers (like Dru for example) that will be willing to lend you a hand with original story ideas and character development. Also, nowadays there are a lot of awesome websites to help you avoid common storylines problems. There's even a Youtube channel that reviews movies and points cinematic failures called CinemaSins www.youtube.com/user/CinemaSins . It's mostly comedic but it does point out real problems like cliches, exposition via dialog, Deus Ex Machina, etc. etc.
Those were my two cents. ;)
Good luck with your endeavor and I hope we hear back from you soon!

We're sitting with Abby, the costumer, right now and just read through all the comments. Thank you very much. We see there's mixed feelings about the shoulder pad.

Ace191 is right about the cape blast. No cape destruction here: "I am not sure what you have in mind with the blasts from her cape or how you will do the special affects, but I would assume that she is generating some kind of energy field around herself and using the cape to contain it and then she opens her cape up in the front and sends the energy blast out at the target."

Discussing it all right now...

A lot has been said, but I'll still add in my thoughts.

I'll preface it with the standard: I really no nothing about fashion, so I won't talk too much about the costume. I do like the asymmetrical look. I'm not sure we can judge things like the shoulder pad until it's an actual uniform. The real advice, which you've gotten from far more skilled people here: is to make sure to tweak it as you turn it into actual clothing for Natasha to wear. I'm not sure the costume needs a logo. A logo does help for branding/merchandising -- (which might help you in marketing) but it's not like anyone seeing her (in her world) would not instantly know who she was by the costume. Most super-costumes have a logo of some sort, not having one I think adds a nice touch. (Power Girl being one of the characters with no logo.)

And let me add to the chorus of acknowledging that your wife is stunning, and shall look awesome in a costume. And I love that she's from the Ukraine and that inspires your story.

Actually, feeds into the next comment. I am struggling to say this in a way that is not misunderstood: there is a wonderful air of Kooky and Weird here. And it all mixes together to make this new thing, in a media that is hard to do that in. This has it's own vibe, and it's not the wavelength that everything else is putting out -- even beginning from the origin being in the Ukraine. I think these things help the project.

Someone was picking on the name in another comment, and I get the criticism but I think the name is part of that vibe. So change it if you feel you must, but I think finding your voice, that thing about you project that speaks to your and your wife: learn to listen to it and go with what it says. If someone complains and wants you to return to bland, well, you probably shouldn't listen to them. If someone says "don't do X", and has a good reason and an alternative... well think about it.

For instance the twig thing. That's strange, it's growing out of her and it signals her health (etc). It's wonderful. Because no one else would have done that. Focus on these things, it's what makes your project special. Honestly the core powers (Strength, Flight, invulnerability) they are fun to see (and we WANT to see them, and will make gleefully noises when we do), the flourishes are what makes things unique. I also like that this indicates why she's using some of the colors in her costume...

Most of these things are a nice blend of other things, and it's the mixing that makes it what it is. I like the she is not aging and showing that by having her archenemies be old. He's cut off the generic mad scientist template, but again has his bits that make him unique -- he's a bit of a creeper (esp to the heroine), his particular obsession isn't really evil (depending on what he wants to use 'unlimited power' for....I took it as generating unlimited power as in generating power for the world, but maybe he just wants Power in the Super-power way, meaning he's back into wanting it for just villainy).

But will really make or break him or the sexy villainess is the actor and the writing behind them. Lex Luthor is pretty cheesy. But Michael Rosenbaum just took over the screen when he was around.

The recharge thing is nice -- don't over use it -- but it's also a nice way to temper your super-strong goddess. She has some limitation, they had to invent Kryptonite for Superman after all, and you're figuring out yours and making it fit from the beginning. Kryptonite makes no sense whatsoever, in a media that makes little logical sense, it's extra non-sensical. OTH, don't try too hard for things to make sense (as I said, we're not starting from a realistic perspective anyway). Just tune to YOUR story.

Still, I'd not want to see her running down on power constantly though....just use it as a needed limitation and factor it into some stories. Using it regularIy might work with how your story is plotted though (I wouldn't change things just because i don't like it's over use) -- just that when i hear those things they get a bit old and overused (especially in re-occuring shows). Like they spend 5 minutes of every episode dealing with this limitation ... I'd rather have NEW STORY.

And well, we're watching this to see the Super-femme, and want to see that and not her run down. Though in a movie, since it's part of the story, it'll probably have to happen once and I could see Dr. Z purposely exploiting this by causing disaster after disaster to run her down. The fiend! Could also explain why he goes away for awhile -- it takes a bit to come up with a few dozen disasters to run down Super Cher Noble, so he can try to capture her.

Hope something in here was useful. ;-)

This really does look interesting and something that I want to see more of!
