This is based by the way on a fantasy novel series from a couple of years ago, which i have heard good things about but haven't read myself. suposedly its suprisingly depressing, which could make interesting stuff for a series. Yeah you can see the Harry potter influence all over this..but....
This show itself has been in devolopment hell around for a couple of years in various forms on different networks, and is being produced by some of the people beyond Supernatural. This is obviously a fairly small budget, but that doesn't mean bad things. Yeah this could be one of those shows i keep hearing good thing about but never watch...
Weirdly the thing that this most reminds me of is the very old Fox TV movie(which was a pilot for a show that never got picked up) White Dwarf. Same kinda vibe.
