I just found this great YT channel;

m.youtube.com/c/AllPowersExplained/video...jvAhXJztUKHdeyDts%3D

And especially some great scenes from Astra in Supergirl;

E.T.A. the power ratings for the girls at the end of clips is also well thought out.

Their video for Retro Girl is great too. If only that show had a bigger budget - the flying scenes in particular are really ambitious, could have done with a few extra $ to make them look a bit better.

The comments in that video are super-cringy...
Brief summary:
- ''what show is this ?'' (3948394 times, all of them got confused from the video title "All Powers from Powers", lol !)
- ''terrible special effects''
- "Supergirl clone ! And anyway Supergirl would beat the crap out of her !" (but why the need compare the two, who cares who would win !?)
- "terrible costume, she looks like a hoe'' (what the f... ?! Guess it's true the current young generations have washed brains...)

Yeah I know :( I was hoping to read also some comments along the line ''oh finally a proper superheroine with a costume more similar to those of classic comic books !", instead zero, nothing, nada.
I have a music hobby and normally i don't read the youtube comments at all (I only pick, listen and like based on my own tastes anyway), but for these kind of TV shows i wanted to check the situation... and it's bad. Really really bad.

One thing I really like with the Astra montage is the sense of, maybe not wonderment, but glee with a "Hey! Look what I can do, now that I've arrived on this planet!" as opposed to Kara who grew up from a child with full knowledge of her abilities .

I think that's how the Astra clips work well together, rather than being strung out over a whole series.

If the Kara you mention is Kara Zor El, she grew up as a completely normal girl on Argo City, a Kryptonian colony orbiting a red sun. When she came to Earth at 14 or 15, she aquired Superman's powers. Whether that was instant or whether it took months, it would have been as dramatic as anything we can dream of.

In contrast, Kal grew up with his growing powers over many years.

Kara's experience of losing her world and everyone she knew and then shortly after gaining Kal El's powers would have shaped her thinking very differently than her cousin.

I think the ways the cousins are different is a lot more interesting to me than the ways they are the same. Be nice someday to see a well-written Supergirl movie that truly addressed that. It could go in several directions.

Kara was nurtured from an early age to 'behave' with her powers by her adoptive parents.
Astra, on the other hand, arrived on Earth with a grudge. She wasn't just a villianess, she discovered she was an (almost) untouchable Super-Villianess.
(I know who I preferred)

By "early", you mean the age of 14. Which is when she arrived. That's fair enough, but developing those powers at that age would still be pretty amazing, especially for the foster parents. You do know what 14 or 15 year old girls are like?

Look at the scenario though. A young girl, lost, finding her way into a new world with her adoptive family helping and aiding her discoveries.

Astra is a grown woman with a chip on her shoulder about how she has been treated, with the discovery of her new powers and an axe to grind.

There is no possible comparison
