2018 workshop no. 1
I've delayed the start of this workshop to allow people to express any concerns that they have over the new format, I've not had any major ones so let's get cracking with the first workshop of 2018.
As per the new set up, this is the suggest an idea week, you have 7 days to post an idea for the first workshop of the year, Dru will then choose any of the ideas or he can run with his idea.
Once Dru has chosen the theme we will then have 2 months of writing time where people can use the dedicated discord chat room to discuss and share items for editing and review, once the two-month deadline is up we will then go tot he two week voting period and the winner will be announced then.
I've already received one suggestion, but I'm going to leave it to them to submit it to this thread as it' only right.
the deadline for this part will be next Friday at midnight UK time.
Let's hear your ideas.

I read somewhere that it would be nice to repeat the "Super villainess" one but if that's not the case I would be awesome if it was "Female criminal becomes super" workshop.
Thanks.

The idea is that she's been sleeping for the last thousand or so years and has a bit of catching up to do as she finds herself suddenly walking around in 2018.
What could or would she decide to do with her great powers given she's starting with a 10 or 11th century perspective on society. A time when Vikings were still sailing around in their longboats.

One thing I forgot to say is that there is lots of potential for humor (she's definitely a fish out of water), drama (she might decide to 'fix' the world, and sexiness (she is a lusty, ultra-hot blonde warrior-goddess). Authors could go any or all of those directions.

A good old classic time travel story, where the supergirl (or to be supergirl) changes something in the past and has to live with the results in the present.
With the Incredibles 2 being released this year, there could be a workshop about super powered families.

It's rarely been done before. I can't think of a story where a truly bad character comes out on top. Dru's stories might be some of the few exceptions. DKC comes close, then backs away. Marknew has done a few alluding to it. But nobody really has explored the implications. We read many stories about powers. The hero generally supports the status quo. But what would someone truly immoral do with victory?
Would make for interesting and challenging plots for our theme. And some tense, anything-can-happen fight scenes. Think superpowers meets Game of Thrones.

I'm new here (well, I've really been reading stories in SWM for a very long time, but I started posting my first story, "The Towers' Syndrome", a few days ago).
My preference have always been evil supergirls, so the Super Villainess topic that has been suggested sounds fantastic.
I wanted to suggest another one that I think could be fun too: "Supergirl needs to get something (e.g. a protected item) or someone (e.g. a witness)"
Looking forward to the workshop!

The first would be ab lend of two concepts. The first is a blend of a villain prompt and the 'accidental hero' one, where there's an evil gal who, through committing crimes, winds up actually helping the world in terms of net benefit. Stuff like she goes to rob a bank, and by melting the vault door open she helps people discover that it was actually a front for an insurance scam on the part of the bank owner, or boosting herself with a super-serum winds up allowing people to discover it has some sort of side effect. I figure it could be a fun twist, especially if the 'hero' winds up doing more harm than good by trying to stop her.
Second would be a bit more traditional, a 'hero for a day' type story where the villainess decides that she'd like to try being one of the good guys, and finds that she likes it all things considered. I figure that could lead to some interesting ideas like how the hero community might face that, and whether she'd wind up going back to evil as time goes on.

I think this one lends itself to some great action scenes with destruction of bank vaults and safe houses coming to mind! Applies to good girls and bad girls. Nice suggestion!

1) superwoman with uncontrollable power
2) superwoman fights giant robot
3) superwoman meets Superman/supergirl
4) average girl on the verge of becoming super loses chance to her fool (queen bee at school)

I think that 1 & 2 are the best (although I would change the second to "superwoman fight a giant"), since they allow the biggest freedom for the writers. #3 isn't bad, but it involves some established character and some writers might not be confortable with that. #4 is a very narrow scenario compared to the rest.

I was thinking like a supergirl switches places with a counterpart from another universe, whether that's by some scientist (Constantine's Portal ), by a random black hole or whatever the writer comes up with.
The counterpart can be the opposite of the supergirls personality or similar personality but in a much different world.
Whether one/both want to just go back home, or do some good/bad then go home or stay is up to the writer.
Just sharing my peanuts!

I try my luck too with some, I hope sufficiently generic, themes:
- She had always refused this title, but yet, one day, Supergirl must admit it is justified to be treated as a living goddess by other mortals... what finally makes her change her mind?
- one girl, he has been given the possibility to transform just one girl into a real Supergirl... why does he chose the evil one? And how the others react?
- And the meanest one: more and more wives and girlfriends are complaining about the behavior of their lovers when it comes to this Supergirl (#stopshowingoff). How does the Girl of Steel decide to handle this growing anger?
I may try to think of some others, I hope Dru is not afraid for having to select one theme amongst so many ideas from us

I'll throw in two hats.
Wrong Genre Savvy where the characters think they know what kind of Superwomen story they are in for, but find it a bit twisted compared to their expectations.
I'll push my power to the limit! where a Superwoman must push her abilities to new peaks and highs when facing a new, dangerous challenge.

njae wrote: "It's not easy being super - a ubergirl's powers cause trouble for her." From a freshly minted ubergirl having to learn to controll her powers to these pesky super senses being distracting at least to the typical woman of steel / man of kleenex dilemma there should be a lot of possibilities.
The "woman of steel / man of kleenex dilemma" doesn't get a lot of attention in general these days because it, and the various ways to overcome it, tend to take us into erotica. Which is fine for me.
Super-erotica is a corner of our genre that can be very imaginative, but necessarily pushes boundaries and some people's comfort zones. It used to be a lot more common in the more expressive and tolerant 90's than it is now. I think the massive increase in visual erotica (porn) ruined the more nuanced and classier textual erotica that was the norm back in the pre-internet or early internet days. Back when even the grocery store Romance novels crossed into erotica.
Back then, the images were supposed to be entirely within the private boundaries one's own mind and not pumped across computer screens. I still think textual erotica has a place in literature, and thankfully, it's treated legally as literature and not porn in most of the world.
I suspect its decline is related to the general reduction in the consumption of the written word in favor of movies/videos/pictures, etc. They have their place, but thankfully, the core workshops of SWM are still built around the written word, which I think is wonderful.
But as many of our SWM avatars demonstrate, most of also like a sexy image or two, especially when its coupled tightly to our genre. But a good story still beats a good image, hands down.
