Well, I have my ending, and now I just have to figure out a good start, and then write an entertaining journey while getting all the required stuff into the story.

Even if I weren't really busy working on my own stuff, I'd have given this idea a pass. It seems too arbitrary, like mandating that a novel have scenes set in a list of cities around the country or the world.

Sorry about that!

Except this is a workshop, Brantley. Think of it as an exercise to see if a good story can be created around these points without seemingly to be created around those points. That's how I would judge them, anyway.

I think workshops are a good way to generate some new stories and to have a little competitive fun at the same time. When I was new to writing, these kind of workshops would have been very useful for me. They build skills that can be used on more significant works.

Couldn't agree more with Fats. This a good test to get regular writers out of their box's. And new writers a chance to see if they can wire together a story line based on random words and a random power.

If you've never won a WS before, this setting will give you the best chance.

One of the original lists has been freed up, this is due to two of the writers collaborating with one of the lists.

So if anyone wants to take up the freed list let me know below.

Ugh. I haven't even been able to get started. Every time I try to get started, that damn power throws a wrench in the works. It just does NOT work as the primary power. I can't even imagine constructing a superwoman built around that particular power.

Maybe you could give that power to the superwoman's adversary. That's what my co-author and I are doing.

With every workshop, there's somebody who wonders if the deadline could be extended. This time, it's me.

Ace and I have about 3/4 of the story drafted. There's no way we can finish the story and revise and polish it for submission within a week.

This happens to be the busiest time of the year for me, as I wrap up the school year, and the upcoming week will be particularly hectic (exams, grading, award ceremonies, athletic banquet).

An extra week (or two!) would make a world of difference.

What say other writers?

Because I'm nice, (and I'll ban anyone who disagrees with me). I'll grant a 10-day extension to the deadline.

This WS is tough. But I knew that going in.....I'm on pace for making deadline, but I certainly wouldn't object to a 10 day extension. Actually, I'm relieved that it was suggested.

By the way....I haven't lost a WS in 7 years....I want someone to be beat me on this WS...that being said....I'm bringing my best....I hope you all bring yours

I must confess if anyone asked me I would say, assuming you're taking part DKC, I know whos going to win before evwn reading the stories. And to be honest I'm pretty sure you'll take out the poll again this time.

But as I said before in another thread, everyone's a winner of every workshop and the prize is a list of top-notch stories.

I'll be participating. And 100%, this is all for fun! But competition must certainly play a part. If anything, only to make you a better writer. I have lots to learn. But what I have learned so far, is in large part attributed to you Dru.

I've said this before, but a large part of my writing is simply my interpretation of the best parts of my favorite stories, from a select few of my favorite authors.

That sounds a bit much.

Infinity Crisis Part 6 did not win the Spring 2012 workshop and you didn't participate in Fall 2012 either. Still, 4 years is still an impressive time-frame which could be quite intimidating for potential participants. I also found three workshops where the winning story is no longer available...

I'm not saying I wouldn't like to win, so I guess I'd be lying if I said competition isn't an element. But I can't dwell upon the poll...because I wouldn't be able to motivate myself if I did. I dont know how many of these I've entered, but I know exactly how many I've won.

The important thing for everyone to remember, IMHO, is that if you dont get many votes it isnt because your story sucks. It's because the other story was better, which doesn't mean your story was bad. Especially when there are so many talented people working this genre. Competition is tough...which is why we are all winners. :)
