It's certainly interesting, and appears to have a lot going for it, but as with any operation of this type, the question will be whether it can continue to provide enough interesting content to warrant the monthly fee. They appear to be aggregating a lot of different material (and a lot of different types of material) from a lot of different providers, which is certainly a step better than a one-man operation hoping that the model he hired shows up to work that day. Still, they're only touting 75 hours or so of content, and a fan can blow through that pretty quickly. Strikes me that a PPV model would work better than a subscription.

I really liked the first part of the trailer... theirs a good sense that something wrong is happening, of building up, of things like extras, and characters with well done special effects-The villians at least look intresting..-that is until athena showed up-and its not a very good costume and a kind of cheesy naration. Though we get some impressive more special effects-we never get a sence who she is or what she can do This feels like the trailer for an action movie, but perhaps a little to loud one.

That said-you know there is something to be said for that. I admire the fact that they and this network are trying something many levels more ambitious then what you see in most movies in this genre. I would almost say dial it back-give us more a sence of character and what she can do-but this feels like well a movie, and i can respect it as a movie.

This does look both ambitious and well-funded. Of course, can't tell everything from a trailer, but looks very promising.

By the way, I grabbed an image from one of their banners showing Artemis, a character in one of the upcoming shows. This speaks to the promise of this network:

Your comment about North Carolina reminded me of a visit to Asheville a number of years ago. It was a fine, warm summer day and we were bicycling around town. At first it seemed fairly typical of most college town during summer break, but I began to notice that we kept coming across these Amazonian-grade young woman who were also bicycling. Not just college students, but mostly mid to late twenties. They all looked much like the picture I posted from the Maiden Network. And not just one or two such women, which would in itself be remarkable for a casual ride around town, but dozens of them. We stopped at this one coffee shop that was run by a couple of astoundingly powerful-looking and very attractive young women, and another half dozen came in who were cut from the same cloth, always in the company of other women who looked the same (and never with men). They were all chatty and huggy with each other but gave me and the other patrons no notice. We felt a bit invisible. I'd never seen such a concentration of powerful women.

I joked to my wife that the Amazons from Paradise Island had relocated to North Carolina. But joking aside, it was a very strange but enjoyable experience. Of course, I didn't ask anyone about it (how do you even phrase the question? "I notice that there are all kinds of you Amazonian types living here. Are you all lesbians?")

In the end, I chalked it up to my getting old and the strong focus on women's athletics at the local university. But it was definitely uncanny. These women were all at the extremes of both muscular development and healthy attractiveness.

Now we have this Maiden Network coming out of that same general area with a number of actresses who remind me of my day in Asheville. Probably not a coincidence, but I admit I haven't a clue what is actually going on. And this was from a time when I traveled extensively, all over the world, and I never saw a population of Amazonian types even a tenth as concentrated as Asheville.

For what its worth... maybe someone else has some idea what's going on in North Carolina.

Interesting trailer, I enjoyed it.
Save for Athena's costume.
Pretty dull and boring.
What a turn off.
Whose idea was that?
This is what happens when you get Politically Correct with WW's costume.
A little color, patriotic or not, would not have hurt anyone.

Some of those Grindhouse films date back to the 1970s which is OK by me.

Inara the Jungle Girl is a fairly recent production.
Also out of N. Carolina.
Bunches of beautiful girls in it and one of the most boring movies I have ever seen.

PPV is the way to go as only some of this content interests me.

I don't want to be a "Well this costume ruins the movie" person, but it is pretty bad. I notice on the poster she wears a diffrent much better costume--which well is not a good sign-as for the This is brown-well....i am going to guess thats partially inspired by The Red camera, which ironically is a little better at capturing depth of grey-and kind of inspired by a design choice-the movie looks brown-which is what it is.

However it doesn't cover the fact that:

1. this is pretty obviously a copy of wonder woman. Which doesn't help it-it looks very much like "Hey we want to do WW but where afraid to get sued"-but by taking away the things that make the costume intresting -the color-and leaving just a little of the detail, its just kind of ehhh.

2. this is very obvioulsy a One piece bathing suit, and one that doesn't fit all that great.

Agian i don't want to judge a movie to harsly on that-but the movie is trying, and i can respect that-which is perhaps why i am hard. If this was a quick done in a backyard type thing i would give it a pass- But at the same time good costuming isn't all that hard. there is plenty of great cosplay out there, and its not that expensive to commusion stuff- hell the monster man villian costume looks great, and some of the other designs look fine. Hell as i posted from last month the costume for the porn parody of Wonder Woman looks a lot better then the NBC pilot costume and arguably the upcoming movie.

But hopefully this is one thing-for a movie like this everything can't happen and i hope in the future well things work better.

I haven't decided if I wanted to take a risk on this, but I 'll likely do so. It's at least a lofty goal and deserves at least some support to see what they can do with it.

And the poster for Artemis looks awesome. If you get a woman that fit and she can half-way act, that will make an awesome movie. (I just hope they actually spend some time on the writing.)

I'd probably think a PPV method, or a method where I "buy" the movie but can only stream it through their service would work. but I also don't know how much they'd make with either method.

I'd love it if Hulu/Netflix/Amazon/iTunes/YouTube had some better avenue for this content to find people. But a dedicated channel might help. I just like there to be many ways to get Content ... that means the overall system is less likely to fail.

Maiden Comics Studio is based in North Carolina and Jess P from what I've seen so far is based from michigan so there no connection really, the clip your referring to is from there produced movie called blood slayer plus both actresses might resemble each other but they still look totally different from one another here a clip from the movie vimeo.com/103042755

Castor I wrote this on my thread there production company are doing female lead characters movies loosely based on comics, graphic novels, literature etc these people involved in the production are big fans of supergirl, wonder woman, black canary heck even the xena and nikita basically just strong powerful kickass female characters so athena is inspired by wonder woman it's there own vision of the character and her story so just think of it as a fan film turned feature length movie , so expect to see more women based on established female characters, I know the costume is not best but I don't really mind it honestly I've seen much worse in comparison you would have to see the movie first for there reasoning of the costume.

I don't mind there doing that-i can respect it as a feature length fan films.

In that regard this is a really clever idea. When Wonder Woman comes out, i don't think where going to get a film like this-not in terms of setting, but also in heart. Fan Films when done well often can be funner, can have better actions and generally better designed then bigger budget films-as one of the gurus of hollywood stunts once told me-there is better fighting in batman fan films then there are in the moives.most importantly You can take chances(which i hope this does)

I like the idea of the business model and as like a roku channel this sounds like a good idea, and hope it makes money.

That said.....

Going for a costume that kind of looks like wonder woman and kind of looks like a brownish one peice bathing sut may not be the best choice here.. But one bad choice in there first film kills nothing.

I signed up. 25% off first month. It is a monthly subscription site. $10/month

Videos appear to be streaming only. NO download. That should prevent most piracy issues. However if I cannot watch when and where I want I typically will not reup my subscription.

Watching the Athena video now. Some force field type shoves so far. Will update more later.

Not your average fan film. The production efforts show. Athena can catch and lift a car, block bullets with a force field that likely comes from her bracelets. A lot of characters and locations. Main actresses are all very good looking. 81 minutes long. The costume was a bit drab but I loved the scrunchie butt part. B)

Negatives: No flying. Slow motion bullet effect showed the classic mistake of showing the whole cartridge and not the bullet come out of the gun. The military costumes could have used a little more realism.

Worth the subscription to check it out.

I signed up and watched the film. I'm no film critic but here's my take on it.

Positives
Warning: Spoiler!

Negatives
Warning: Spoiler!

Overall the film itsell was worth the one month subs I paid, so I consider all the other content as a big bonus, however if no new stuff is added it will only be a one month sub, so I hope this is a success for them, and we get future films/tv series starring females who can kick butt.

Not a good sign on start up day.
Kinda anxious to watch the movie.

Well from a financial standpoint-it looks like some people are getting in(great) but your having problems-that might suggest demand is higher then expected at least for its first day.

I can not watch HD streaming on my equipment.
I load the video and let it buffer.
After 30 seconds or so it stalls and I have to pause and let it buffer again.
Every now and then it resets to zero and I have to start all over again.
I have made it up 10.20 in after hours of work.
BTW the first woman does not show up until 8.20 into the video.
This is exhausting.
I have a DSL line, it's what I have and I have to deal with it.
I can watch YouTube and Vimeo easily by setting the resolution down.
HULU and Netflix I watch routinely with just a minute of buffering every now and then.
HULU and Netflix are the sites these guys want to compete with.
I had this problem with another genre site last year.
They answered my e-mail almost immediately and had a fix in place within 24 hours.
It's been about 12 hours now since I sent my e-mail and nothing.
