Can fly in space after all?

Can fly in space after all? was created by andyf
This post is a bit spoilery. If you watch the extended trailer for the 2nd half of season 2, there is a scene of Supergirl in space zapping an alien spaceship with her heat vision. You can see asteroids in the background. In an interview just posted today on cbr.com, talking about directing tonights episode, Kevin smith lets it slip this scene happens during tonights episode. She is fighting an alien ship in space.

Doe this scene prove that Alex was wrong back in 1x20 and Kara really can fly under own power in space?

[Fridge logic alert]

My general impression is that the problem is that a kryptonian can't hold his/hers breath forever in space (as per the post crisis and animated series) making any kind of prolonged space travel impossible. In the season one finale Kara was hauling at least several hundred tons of metal into space, which caused her to spend a lot more energy than she normally would. To get a comparison in your mind try to imagine trekking uphill carrying a 10 kg weight in each hand, opposed to going without anything. As it's often the case in these TV adaptations the characters are a lot weaker than their printed counterparts (i.e. the Flash max speed so far is around Mach 3, which is way below his comic book version and I presume that Supergirl's power are similarly reduced) and that might account for her inability to stay in space after the Fort Rozz stunt.

In last night 's episode, she didn't fly in space at all. She just hovered over the ground and zapped the ship. She should stillbe a ble to fly in space for brief period if she held her breath or used an air tank.
