Really liked this episode and thought the writing is getting progressively better with the last two episodes. While this episode centered more around character development (James, Kara/Mon-El, Alex) and was lighter on action as Supergirl, I have to say this was one of my favorite episodes of the series, though I may be a little prejudiced.

I was really put off by Jame becoming the Guardian, and I still think it's kind of overkill, but they did a good job with it I thought. He immediately TRIED to save the day and while he had the element of surprise at the beginning, he was getting ready to be overmatched (realistic) before Kara saved the day (as she should -- her show). I liked the modern costume design and his and Wynn's interaction in the episode was great.

Mon-El's "job" was not that original, but brilliantly done, as a way of disappointing Kara before "changing" and becoming the hero. Again, like James, he managed to be heroic without unrealistically saving the day. I again was skeptical of more "supers" overshadowing Kara, but they (writers) are doing a great job at having them compliment Kara and intertwine them into the show.

Finally.....poor Alex! :( This subplot was/is so good, and I'm happy now that they've gone down this path. I don't share many personal details in my life, but I must say that as the father of an LGBTQ child, the scene of her awkwardness and coming out to Kara and the subsequent heartbreak with Maggie was so beautifully awkward and emotionally painful to watch, it resonated with me on more than a few levels. While we saw it coming, the parallels now of Alex and Kara both being sort of "black sheep" of their family -- but in different ways -- also gives great potential going forward. Wonder how much direct influence that Adler and Berlanti (who I believe are both openly gay) had in the development of this script cause I thought it was fantastic writing.

Alex got "FRIENDZONED!"

Ouch!
Ochity, ouch, ouch, ouch.

A pretty recurring theme in this show.

Cara/ Wynn
Cara/ James
Megan/ Hank

Totally agree with your review Lfan.

^ Especially this. The scenes with Alex were some of the best in the show so far (kudos to the writers and Chyler for delivering). While I don't have your personal experiences, I can honestly say I was genuinely moved by how that played out. I rarely get pushed to that level with this show (I think the last time was, for me, probably the final fight scene with Red Tornado, back in season 1). Mostly I enjoy it for the bubblegum entertainment flavour, but it was great to see that those notes can be hit personally.

I can't really add more to what you said. Some good character developments (though I'm not sold on this whole Guardian thing tbh), and I really enjoyed the fact that Kara defeated the villain using her brains more then her brawn. Probably not the first time, but nice to see.

Really enjoying this season, and can't wait to see where it goes (especially with regards to the arcs not featured in this episode - Lena and Cadames).

Peace.

One of the things that really struck me about the plotline is "Well this is a copy of Wyonna Earp, which also did the non powered Sister falls in love with a women thing"- but i do find it refreshing that this isn't entirely what they have done.In a fictional world where love, almost especially LGBT love is often kinda effortless, They actually played it for pain, which is something that i can respect
