Desert Rat.
This is my first new story in about a year, and it's a complete story in one edition..
The story itself came to me in a dream, but it draws on some real life experiences I had many years ago, way out in the high desert of California, well off the roads, and which involved a couple of “desert rats” I came across. Both were very interesting folks, but they were clearly not living in the same world as I was. Most people would say they were nuts, but I’m sure they thought the same of me.
The encounter made me wonder what else could be going on out there that no one else knew about. This story is the result of that wondering.
I won't say much about it here except to say that it involves a member of an alien race called the Kecklavians, who appeared from time to time in my old Aurora Universe stories. Kecklavians are polymorphs, and that forms the basis for the adventure in this story.
