Masks

Masks was created by superborn
One thing that has me puzzled about super heroes in general. Does the mask really hide your identity? Or maybe only in the movies. I never could figure out how no one knew that Clark Kent was superman. As a matter of fact, in the latest Green Lantern movie, Green Lantern's girlfriend actually recognizes him!
Batman and Catwoman have better disguises. Spiderman has a whole bodysuit that covers him from head to toe. Some super women do not even have masks: like super woman and super girl.

I agree, - how did lois's boss and colleague not realise she was Ultrawoman in the show? It was a bit crumby but that was the whole show as well i s'pose

Once the heroine can fly, lift cars one-handed, and shoot lasers from the eyes, I think the premise of "suspended disbelief" is in effect! I wouldn't worry to much about the mask from a "realism" standpoint. It cracks me up when people say fighting in heels or a cape is so unrealistic and 'non-functional', but they wanna put a mask on her...think that's not distracting or cumbersome to the heroine in a fight?
Personally, I don't like them on my heroines....

The whole mask deal is probably older than the superheroes. Matter of fact anything short of a skyhood isn't a very effective disguise since it might leave one or more key details visible etc.
As a general rule I agree with LFan, once you got yourself into a universe where people can juggle cars, worrying about clothes (aside from the aestetich element is pointless).

Two words: Green Arrow.
Seriously, why bother with a mask when you're the only one with that style of beard in America?

There's also Hong Kong Phooey, who was the only talking dog in the cast. Not that that show was ever meant to be taken seriously!
By the last season of Wonder Woman, Diana Prince wasn't even wearing glasses to conceal her identity, yet no humans ever guessed it (non-humans such as IRAC, aliens, and even some animals were another story.) Maybe she was using some kind of spell or something? A "glamor?"
Or maybe I'm reading too much into it and we had to suspend disbelief and that's the trick to the whole thing. Heck, shows like Wonder Woman wouldn't have been anywhere near as much fun without the secret identity, complete with her classic transformation!

Hong Kong Phooey? Wow I remember that dog! How funny!
It is funny that when people are looking for a Halloween Costume they generally add a mask even though the original character might not have had a mask. It does add some mystery to the whole thing - don't 'cha think?

That scene is one of the few things I remember from that show (that and the Ultra Woman episode, which of course was ultimately a disappointment). It still cracks me up, and I always cite it whenever someone brings up the question about how nobody could tell Clark was really Superman.I never saw that episode! That is awesome! Thanks for sharing.
