I know it's not ubergirl-centric, but there is a strong rumor that Supes squares off against a Kryptonian villainess (Faora) in this one. Sadly, nothing to report on that front from the trailer, but it still looks pretty darn good. I think they might have gotten it right -- finally!

I hope that you are right. However, I can still smell the stench that was Superman Returns...

I'll fall into the optimistic crowd. It feels a lot like this is supposed to be 'Superman Begins', which hopefully will be as good as Batman's comeback. Plus the material might give some good inspiration for somebody to write Girl of Steel

The director for "300" involved.

The director for "The Dark Knight" series involved.

I don't see how this will be bad. At all.

I'm looking forward to it!

I think you hit the nail on the head on why I still hold out some hope for this movie. I've not been thrilled with what I've seen so far - but - for the reasons you mentioned I haven't thrown the baby out with the bath water yet.

I might not be in line to see it the opening weekend but I might give it a second weekend shot if there is positive buzz here.

*I* don't even know what kind of SM movie or characterization would make me happy anymore.

I agree with Random here.

Superman is generally one of the hardest characters to properly write. Batman is - by comparison - a lot easier.

This new movie might be very good or very bad. I honestly can't figure out by the trailers. But. I really hope that, if they decided to go down the "Batman Begins" route, I hope they were smart enough to tweak the thing to make it work with Supes. Instead of just using the same "Tropes collection" and slapping it over Superman.

And I agree with Anon. Superman IS really hard to do well. Well, for movies that is. I mean, if you look at the number of good/decent Batman movies vs the the number of Superman movies, there is no comparison. My theory on it is that while, yes, his power level is hard to balance and display well on and for the big screen, it's more his personality and attitude that they can't get right. The closest WAS the first few Reeves Superman's, up to... um, three I think, well, maybe just one and two, I can't quite remeber but... even then, it just didn't feel quite right. Portraying what amounts to a humble helpful god is NOT easy.

I think they're just overthinking it.

Put Tom Welling in the suit, let Joe Johnston direct it, crank up the scale and the action and call it a day.

Nolen is great, but angst and pessimism is not what Superman is about. Maybe (hopefully) we are seeing "the darkness before the dawn" in this trailer. But I'm fearful that all we will end up with is darkness.

I think it looks promising but too dark (that's for Batman) IMO. Cinemagraphically, it reminds me a lot of Watchmen and 300, with lots of dull and muted scenery, lighting, and costuming. With a lack of continuity in the trailer footage, it's difficult to tell what exactly it'll be like but the cast appears to be solid (though I can't stand Cosner).

Along with overthinking it, does anyone know WHY the entertainment division at DC/WB continues to spin-off these iconic characters without their trademark name? It's Man of Steel, not Superman....It's Dark Knight, not Batman.....it's Arrow, not Green Arrow....CW is developing Amazon, not Wonder Woman....

Just strikes me a little strange that they don't leverage the character name more. I mean, we KNOW who they are, but the studios seem to be going out of their way to distance themselves from the original character names. I dunno, maybe I'M overthinking it....

The Superman, Batman and WonderWoman image is being saved for the bed sheets, lunchboxes and party balloons. These grimmer, no fun characters portrayed on movies and TV take just the very core of the great characters and their new handlers rip them to shreds in the name of progress and realism. It's happening across the board. Marvel characters no longer have secret identities and the new Sherlock Holmes has almost nothing in common with Conan Doyle's character.

I disagree with some of you.

To me they are giving the character depth. If you think about who Superman is, where he came from, the weight on his shoulders, what people expect of him...

I always thought that Superman was too two-dimensional in most interpretations in the comics. All-Star Superman in 2011 was my favorite look at the Man of Steel because it showed a flawed character, to an extent. Even Superman isn't perfect.

To make the movie like the Avengers would be a mistake, IMO. The Avengers was a great film, but it was an action film. Superman deserves more than that.

Like Lfan said, maybe I'M over thinking it.

Agreed one of my favorites as well.

As to Supes being handcuffed by the military, what better way for such a person to show they mean no harm, than to surrender to people who can't do anything to him? I think that part of the theme of the movie is getting the world to trust Superman. After all if a real superhuman showed up how many of us would trust the person? They would have to prove themselves which maybe is what Superman is going to do.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is the best Batman movie I have ever seen. The characters are treated with maturity and respect and we actually see a peak into Bruce Wayne's motivations. Justice League: New Frontier is a fantastic movie that again handles the DC Universe with proper respect. It would make a great script for a live action film. So it can be done with the proper creative team. Funny how the animators can get it right and the live action producers are ashamed of the source material.

I´m sure by now we all saw the new Superman Trailer. It Looks FANTASTIC

Unfortunately there´s almost zero Faora on the trailer, she only appears in the background in a quick Kripton Shot.

Still, the scenes showing superman powers and aerial fights are promising, I´m sure there will be some nice uber-bad girl action.

Have to say I'm really looking forward to this. Not only because I'm a huge comic book fan, but also because I'm actually kinda curious about the "body-armour" and "space helmet" she seems to be wearing

I've purposely avoided reading anything about the movie, but those screenshots piqued my interest.

Thnx.
