Olga Kurylenko reading as Wonder Woman?

The fanboy rumor-mill known as Schmoe Knows is reporting that Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) recently read for the part of WONDER WOMAN in the upcoming Superman/Batman flick:

Don't know to process this one.....if true, I am ecstatic that WW will be part of the movie, but Ms. Kurylenko, while easy on the eyes, wouldn't be my first choice. In most pics I've seen, she has more of "fierce, runway amazon" than a "fierce, runaway amazon". I kinda liked the rumor of Jaime Alexander....

Just my opinion, but doesn't she seem a little too skinny to play WW?

I know that she would probably go into an intense training regimen if she got the role but could she really pack on enough muscle to look credible next to Superman and Batman? I'm not so sure...

I agree that Jaime Alexander is a better choice (she was OK as SIF in Thor) than Olga. She has that fierce look and has some practice acting like an Amazon-type warrior.

But you can never predict the casting vagaries of the studios. I'm just going to be happy to see Diana in the movie at all.

But... I'll wager right now that they'll do a reduced power version of WW, but maybe, just maybe, they can might manage to get her to ooze "warrior" from every pore like a true Amazon should. If they put Diana in armor (or some kind of combat uniform), then attitude will be more important than raw physique.

After all, despite having significantly less strength and invulnerability than Superman (even in her most powerful comic roles -- everyone's weaker than Supes), she can still hold her own or even kick his ass because she's a far better fighter than him.

A fight between Diana and Faora up would be an interesting. Both are the ultimate in trained warriors. That fight would be hard to call, although I suspect many of you have strong opinions on who'd win. I doubt we'd all agree, but it might be interesting to read your thoughts.

I saw this Summers Oblivian which she co stared in.

Now this wasn't a very good movie at all, in which pretty much everyone except Mellisa Macarthy, particulary Tom Cruise felt miscast. However her in particular.

She has a very thick accent-which i am not going to discredit her for having. However beyond it she just seemed to be reading her dialouge phonetically as if english was a third language she picked up last year. It gave her an exotic quality-which for the movie made no sence, as she was playing an american(i think)

She was suposed to An astronaut and theroetically a badass-but not. I have seen Tom cruise in real life-and he is not physically an impressive guy-but he can play that. Next to him she looked like a fashion model kind of playing through it. it was not a convincing performance, and in a movie of bad but trying performances felt weak.

Now i suspect to a little extent particuarly in the first half of the movie that felt a tad intnetional-she was suposed to be this exotic person that enters this fantasy world-and 'exotic' could be a word to describe wonder woman. Also a lot of this stuff did work in quantum-hey its James Bond.

Even if she bulks up, and does stunts(which i remember reading she can do)....

I went to a comic convention over the weekend, and went to a pannel on Future Wonder Woman movies-and got to say-HUGE attendance, hundreds of people most of them women. And one of the panelists said something that i thought was intrsting. She liked the idea of a wonder woman movie-but didn't think that anything Warner Brothers whould make could be any good.

I don't agree with her...but if this is the direction they go i can see the logic.

Really hope that Wonder Woman is going to be introduced in the Superman/Batman flick, but I also really hope it is not Olga who gets the role. For me the person who gets the role should have an athletic physique, or at least weigh more than 100lbs dripping wet. As lfan says Olga may look good on the catwalk, but a badass warrior she is not. And as for WW v Faora, only one winner, its WW all the way :)

And I was thinking Faora, as she's got the full boat of Kryptonian powers. Think Supergirl with over-the-top fighting skills (Faora is supposedly an absolute master at Kryptonian martial arts). But Diana is one tough lady. Hell of a fight either way.

Did want to make the comment that while i don't think this will be a good fit, this has to be the fifth time in the last two months the concept of "Wonder Woman movie" has made the top trending articles of Yahoo. This is more then say the gaurdians of the galaxy.

As i mentioned-over the weekend i went to a local comicbook convention, and attended a pannel on wonder woman film-on a sunday afternoon. And the Fairly large room was standing room only-which was the only time i saw that at the convention, including some with decently big names.

Variety has an article about three actresses reading for a role in the film. The role is thought to be for either Bruce Wayne's girlfriend or Wonder Woman. The character is said to be tall, brunette, athletic and exotic.

Kurylenko is one of the them. The other two are French actress Elodie Yung and Isreali actress Gal Gadot.

Two more rumored names up for the role of Diana in the movie:

Gal Gadot (Fast and Furious):

Elodie Yung (GI Joe: Retaliation):

Some people are now saying the role is "Diana" which could indicate a teaser role or cameo rather than a full-on appearance of Wonder Woman. I find it interesting that the rumored casting seems to be fairly 'non-American' so far --- Olga (European/Eurasian), Gal (Israeli), and Yung (Asian)

The "non-american" casting makes some sense as Wonder Woman/Diana is of Greek origin (as far as I remember).

And I agree, I don't think Kurylenko really fits the part. Nice looking woman, but no way near Wonder Woman imo. Jaime Alexander would be much closer to my choice (loved her as Sif, even if it was a small part).
Both Gal Gadot and Elodie Yung, for me, would both be ok look-wise. But as I haven;t seen their films, I cannot judge their acting.

Here's hoping something good comes out of this rumour :)

Peace.

Yeah, I haven't seen the cinematic tour de forces that are Fast & Furious 6 or GI Joe: Retaliation, so I cannot comment on their acting. On looks alone and physicality, I'd go with Gal Gadot of the three, based on other pics I've seen of her.

The other interesting thing is how WW's costume has stabilized in the latest comics, particularly the Superman / Wonder Woman romantic series that is now an issue or two in. Its a nice blend of the old and new and I like it.

Also, based on the hints we've seen from DC on the theme of future issues, this is going to get complicated. While many of us who have read comics for decades are groaning over the two of them having an intense, intimate relationship (no Lois Lane), it might be what works for the big screen. Supes now has a girlfriend who is in his same power class, but the relationship is rocky and tempestuous and complicated. But also wildly physical, or so the writers and some of the artwork have hinted.

They both fill a void in the other character's life, and they are strongly drawn together (and just as importantly, they are different than everyone else) but WW isn't willing to play second fiddle to anyone, emotionally or physically.

My theory is that if they can make this work in this comic book run, then they might have something that could leap to the big screen. A way to bring WW in as a romantic lead, but without diminishing her powers. Not just as Superman's girlfriend, but as a strong character in her own right who happens to have a 'complicated, modern relationship' with him.

I'm convinced this is Warner's planned segue for making WW suitable for modern audiences.

After starting off negative, I find I'm beginning to warm up to it, but we'll see how the next four or five issues of the comic shape up.

In an article about the frontrunner for the role of Nightwing, the Wrap.com says Kurylenko is the frontrunner for the role of Diana Prince. She will not appear as WW, and the role will be more of a cameo appearance.
