GotG and origins

GotG and origins was created by Markiehoe
Guardians of the Galaxy crushed the Box Office last weekend here in the U.S.

A while back we discussed whether a Superheroine movie needed a proper origin story to be successful.
I took the side of "NO"
In GotG we were introduced to five new heroes, none of which had a proper origin story, the closest being StarLord and that was hardly an origin.
The audience is smart, they accepted the characters and went along for the ride.

While it wasn't an origin of the characters, it was an origin of how the team came together. They just didn't pick it up with all five already friends and kicking ass, so in that sense I kinda saw it as an origin story. Besides, it's hard to do 5 characters' origins justice in such a compressed time frame. I thought it was a nice balance.

As for the ride, it was a great one I thought. One of the best comic book movie adaptations to date, IMO (though it felt far more like a sci-fi film than a superhero comic film)

Team Origin, that's an excellent point.
I never saw it that way.

I have to mention the Mix Tape soundtrack was fresh and really tied the movie together.

It would also be a stretch to call it a superhero movie--which is not a critique. Its based on a comicbook, but so is say "A History of Violence".

You know maybe doing a female lead big goofy action movie-alla this Star Wars, whatever could be pretty fun.

I mean i can think of Female superhero movies-there have been a couple-but not really any Space Operas. Hell Making a female lead in a Star Wars movies could be great.

Well both female leads, Good Girl and Bad Girl are augmented and trained far above the norms of their specific races so you could call them super.
Rocket is also augmented to be smarter and stronger.
Groot's natural ability puts him far above the "normal" folks that he interacts with.
Starlord is special in his own way.

I'd call that a Super Team

I guessed what was in the gift box when they showed it when he was grown up.

Great movie. Worst going to a midnight showing, which was held at 10:30. Really! Part of the fun of a midnight showing is seeing how well Friday hurts. ;)
