Encouraging... definitely on watch list now. Tks for the heads up.
I just Kindled the first of the three novels by Ransom Riggs that it's based on. Always like to read the book first.

I donno.
This looks a lot like Tim Burtons 40s gothic X-men, and that could be cool.
The problem is it looks like a tim burtons X men.
Tim burton has done some of the great films of the last 30 years. Pee Wees Big adventure, nightmare before Christmas, Beetlejuice, and yeah Batman Returns, which is still probabbly my favorite superhero movie. That said. he has a look.
And for the last 10 or so years on big movies when they give him a budget of 100 million dollars he has a tendency to let the look and visual styling do all the work-and its a visual style thats kind repetive. Easy CGI really hurts him as its no longer has any constraints of how he can shoot things...which means he just does it which gives it at time an autopilot feel. Since the money needed to do this is so huge however the studios have a tendency to kinda want to muddle up his scripts and water it down and he doesn't seem that intrested in fighting them.
And X mena- In particular I am getting a strong vibe of what i dislike most about X-Men movies
A) a single protaginist who is the chosen one to fight the bad guys(usually this is woleverine). yeah there like other characters and from this stand points sme of them of them maybe women...but your not going to see them in the climax. a couple of weeks ago i brought this up in relation to james bond...and the principal resides. she may look cool but shes going to be the damsel in the climax.
they have kind of godlike powers and so they never have to interact with normal people so its all just them dealing with air.
So yeah..this is an intresting idea-and the look is good....but yeah...

I have the graphic novel and the actual novels. There are some slight deviations from it from what I can tell (originally, the romantic interest was with the pyrokinetic and the aerokinetic was a lot younger) and it doesn't quite have the true creepy photograph feel that the original novel had. However, it still looks pretty cool and I would go see it. But to be honest, it is less X-Men and more of The Umbrella Academy (Gerard Way), which by effect The Umbrella Academy was supposed to be a Tim Burton version of the X-Men so....
