I would comment that recent superhero movies seem to be going a little smaller in superpower scale. People liked Batman in the Batman Vs Superman battle-and there planning a new batman movie-not so much Superman. There making Captian America not Hulk, or any of the other heavy hitters in the Marvel Universe- Black Panther, Spiderman, Antman, GOTG Wolverine-none of these are characters who knock down buildings for fun. Of all the characters in the MCU getting movies- Capt Marvel you could argue is the most powerful. Shes an Uberpowered Woman-but thats actually pretty much it for uber on the slates.

Harley Fits into that-she Really isn't Powered at all in the comics, just really athletic and good at fighting. Someone i think it was Sarge was commenting about characters being Ultimate Fighting wantabees-well she typically uses wepions but thats kinda the idea there

And this isn't necessairly a bad thing, just a thing-it seems taste in superhero movies you know change, and the idea of characters who are a little less powerful may have something.

I am excited though. When done well Harley is a character who has a good mix of humor, pathos, humanity and evil. And so Far from what we have seen Robbe is doing well with it.

(i will comment i am leaving Wonder Woman out of here-partially becuse i have no idea how uber her movie is going to be-she tends to vary a lot)

One of my friends complained about Deadshot in the trailers just being "just another Will Smith character".

And my response, not entirely joking, was "Will Smith is in this movie? Sorry, I was too busy watching Margot Robbie."

I see DC is learning from the Marvel Black Widow mess. For all that I'll say I don't know where the Black Widow movie would have worked into Marvel's schedule (or Scarlet's), when you have something that works SO WELL, make the damn movie.

So DC deciding to green light a Harley movie seems like a good idea. She's an EXTREMELY popular character, and from the trailers, it seems like they've gotten a great actress to channel her. Certainly Robbie has done very well in other movies.

So, don't think about it too much, just get the movie rolling. It's the right thing to do.

And yeah, It's a good time for Superpowered women in film!

Harley is killing it at DC comics. She's a top-tier character in recognition, popularity, and sales. They'd be crazy not to get on that train.

My personal opinion is that among the sea of dark and brooding storyline, she's one of the few characters that aren't just positive, but also genuinly funny. What is killing many storylines for me these days is that too many writers seem to think that they need to upscale the tension by the second (or the panel), instead of having peaks of tension followed by valleys of relative calm and quiet.
When I read Harley I know that there are going to be some poignant monent, but I also know that they're going to be spaced by pages of crazy fun that, in turn, makes those moments much more significant.

Exactly. Harley and Starfire are the only monthly books I still check in on at DC, because they're so much fun.

Some of the DC digital titles show you can be serious without getting grimdark, but most of the print line is uninteresting to me right now.

Probably relevant:

(And for those missing the joke, this is a direct reference to American Psycho.)

Also: I didn't know she was Australian. Somehow she just got hotter.

She is a profoundly beautiful example of humanoid perfection. Not hard to imagine she's something more than merely human -- Kryptonian or Velorian or Amazon or whatever. So I'd love to see her in any role where she gets to play someone truly powerful.

In the meantime, Harley is a cool character no doubt, and I'm ready to be impressed, but I'm also ready for the next step.

Much like Natasha Henstridge when she played Sil in the Species movies, Margot just flat looks superhuman.
