female Van Helsing for Syfy

SYfy has just ordered a female Van Helsing tv series from Calgary, Alberta based Nomadic Pictures. 13 hour long episodes to debut in the fall of 2016, with production starting in Januray 2016. Writer-director Neil Labute to showrun.

It's based around Abe Van Helsings now grown daughter. After falling into a coma, she awakens five years later to find the world has been taken over by vampires. She finds herself with a strange power over them, whatever that means.

It's another Canadian produced, female led genre show for Syfy. Simon Barry of Continuum fame serves as an exeutive producer.
I find it a bit odd they ordered this to series since they have the similar Wynonna Earp in production right now.

Kelly Overton has been cast in the lead role. Five other roles were cast as well. all male.

1st episode airs Friday, Sep. 23 2016 on Syfy.

Tonight , after Sharknado 4, the 1st episode will air commercial free.
And speaking of Sharknado 4, it looks like Tara Reid 's character of April has been turned into a cyborg.

Good role for Tara. She hasn't looked human for years.

Just went through the first season of this show on Netflix. Vanessa (Kelly Overton) is cute, a couple of nice fighting scenes, but it got really interesting in the last episode of the season, where Vanessa develops superstrength after drinking blood. Good hangover to season 2!
