Thunder on Black Lightning

For ubergirl fans who haven't watched Black Lightning, you might wanna start. His oldest daughter, Anissa, has gained powers including superstrength (or density manipulation) and will eventually become the superheroine, Thunder (from DC's Outsiders). She has shown off her powers in almost each episode and is starting to figure them out and use them more frequently. Last episode she donned a "costume" (an homage to the outfit in the Outsiders) and had a few good scenes of her ripping open a storage unit and tearing the handle off a safe. Not to mention, she is pretty easy on the eyes!

His second daughter has not manifested yet, but she probably will soon as well. Added bonus: Annisa's new GF (she's a lesbian) is Grace Choi, the superstrong Amazon also from the Outsiders. She hasn't exhibited any powers though (in fact it appears she DOESNT have any right now) but we'll see.

BL is actually a really good show and as far as entertaining, its probably better than most of CW's other superhero offerings, so you should check it out just for that.

Black lightning is a very good show.
I really like the middle aged man aspect of the show.

Anissa wants to be a superhero and make a difference.
She is inspired by Black Lightning and frustrated by the status quo.
She realizes she has a special ability and decides she wants to use it for good.
Her initial attack on the scummy drug dealers selling to children was so devastating she almost killed both of them.
This shocked her and caused to her to re evaluate who she wants to be and what she wants to do.
Very well done.

The scenes of her training herself and putting together her costume were excellent.
A superhero who really has no resources or support system.

I tried to find a picture of Anissa in costume yesterday and came up empty.
This was after the episode as I try to avoid spoilers.
With all the pre production photos for Supergirl giving away everything this surprised me a little bit.

Also bulletproof. When she goes to rescue her mom from some thugs who've taken her hostage at work, Thunder no-sells 2 separate salvos of gunfire, After each one she kicks the ass of the thug that emptied his clip into her invulnerable chest. She then blocks several zaps from her father with no effect(the thugs had already run for the hills and Black Lightning arrived as Thunder was about to untie her mom, who had duct tape over her mouth so she couldn't tell him not to attack)

She's only bulletproof (and strong) when she focuses. They showed this in some of her strength tests, and were amazingly consistent with it in the fight. She breathes in and holds it every time she is going to block or use her super-strength. She often pushes her hand out to help focus.

But when she's shocked off guard, her father slamming her into the ceiling and floor really hurt her. I took it that Black Lightning didn't get that part of her power either (fight was too short) so he probably slammed her pretty hard and used too much force because she was blocking everything else he'd tried and he thought she was that way all the time.

She's hella hot in that costume. I had to replay that fight scene a few times. ;-)

I think she's the sexiest superheroine on TV since Black Scorpion. Yes Melissa Benoist is gorgeous, but she's not wearing latex :) Pretty sure this throwback Outsiders costume is going to be replaced by her soon for the more 'woke' one we've seen in publicity shots, but let's enjoy the amazing view while it lasts.
