I've seen the Korean one and I must admit, not only did it have great displays of her strength, the show was damn funny as well :D

It was kind of like watching a live-action anime :)

Looking forward to seeing how faithful the adaptation is :)

Peace.

Sounds promising, but Silverman is stunning that he Lord destroy Bionic Woman 2007, Heroes and almost all of NBCs primetime lineup when he was there

Hoping it's good but FTWD was a poorly written show for the most part and it's on the CW which also doesn't lend itself to great writing.

That being said, it's worth giving it a shot and there might be enough action and scenes to make it worth it.  I saw that Rhonda Rousey is producing the show - wondering if she's starring in it.  On the upside - it's Rhonda Rousey.  On the downside - it's Rhonda Rousey :).

Oh I totally understand that this will not be the best written show, far from it :D

Just curious to see how they approach it :)

Peace.

If they produce it with Korean writers, actors and maintain a Korean sensibility to the show, it might be great fun. But of course, that would make it over-the-top by North American standards, as you saw in the trailer.

Japanese, Koreans and Chinese undoubtedly view their styles as being very different, but to my NA eyes, they seem more alike than dissimilar. The Korean shows almost border on slapstick in some ways. Which can be a lot of fun once in a while if you like to laugh at cheesy acting

But, if they try to remake the show for NA or European viewers and perceived sensibilities, it'll probably bomb, big time.  Just produce the show as they would in Korea, but with English-speaking voices or overdub.

Anyway... my 2 cents.

I totally agree with you Shadar. If the scriptwriters can keep the same innocent nonchalance as portrayed by the girl in the original, the series will be much more likely to work..

Hopefully optimistic.
I am afraid the overwhelming "Let's change just this one thing" thought will morph this into a SJW clone of the the other CW shows.

I would be very surprised if this DIDN'T happen tbh.

But like you, I'm remaining hopefully optimistic.

The korean version was a blast to watch :)

Peace.

i really enjoyed the Korean original.  The blurb makes it seem like they're going to mess with it some, she's a former war photographer not an innocent woman trying to get into creating video games.  She also 'discovers' she's strong when she's knows in the show and tries to hide it.

They are nominally small changes ... but I think they'll ruin the vibe from the orignal show that makes it work.  Changing the boyfriend from a cop to a spec ops agent probably doesn't matter ... but it's more down the "everyone has to be some super-exceptional thing".  He can't just be a cop, he has to be from on elite military unit.  And he can't handle how strong she is, and runs away.

The Billionaire, well he's in the original.

Also I love women who are built and look strong and capable (Like Rousey), but that's NOT what made this show click.  The entire premise is that she's a cute bubbly tiny woman, yet she's impossibly strong. That dichotomy makes it extra funny.  so i hope that Rousey isn't the star of the show.  I wouldn't mind seeing her get a show, one that works with her abilitiles.  but this show shouldn't be it.

The changes monkey with what made the show work.  The show could STILL work, but it won't be the original.  That's ok an all, but one wonders why you buy the rights to something if it's not what you wanted.

As much a I can'  s,tand Silverman,I'll  give this try. Keep in mind, that Silverman is good atv, selling shows to networks  and streaming types, but not show great at selling them to viewers.

Do Bong Soon's super-cute girliness, allied with her exasperation and even embarrassment about her colossal strength is a big part of why the Korean series worked so well. I can see the Americans fucking this up. Hope I'm wrong, though!

I'm fairly certain you can't effectively sell the Korean model to an American audience.  Not only that, we already have the Korean version - why just duplicate if you can re-engineer the story?  Will it work?  Probably not (the producers, writer and network don't inspire confidence) but I'm certainly willing to give it a try.

Remember - Karaoke bars aren't really the same thing between Korea and the US either but both can work - just not in the same way :) (or with the same services.)

I'm not in disagreement with what you said here.  Though a petty faithfull adaption adjusting for culture and tone is worthwhile as most Americans are never going to watch the Korean version.  It's only recently with it being on netlix that most can even find it easily.

There usually is a core to something that makes it work.  Understand that, and you can adapt it to a new audience and be successfull.

In this case is sounds to me like they aren't getting at why the show worked, and are are making something else.  Which as I said is perfectly fine. I just wonder why they optioned Da Bong Soon to do it.

But, that said, it's not like i'm not going to give it a chance.  A show about a super-strong woman?  yeah, i'm going to watch to find out if i like it or not.

i think i tweaked someone here by saying that the new she-ra 'is what it is'.  And it is, both this show and she-ra are going to be whatever they end up being and nothing we say or do here is going to alter that one smidgen.   I have no problem with people expressing their opinions about that, but at a certain point, it becomes boring.  And not here, but sometimes I think that people don't know just HOW boring it is for people who something isn't for to KEEP COMMENTING.  Like it might be the first time that person said that, but it's not like 1000 didn't say it before.

I also never really grok why if you don't like something and it wasnt' made for you, why you'd keep investing head space about it, or bother people who like it.  I mean I don't like the Star Wars prequels, I also rarely talk about them.   I'd rather talk about Tucker and Dale vs Evil or Ex Machina.  I also wouldn't think about attacking someone who liked them.  (I'd probably be more interested in why.)

All we get to do is decide if whatever these things end up being, do we acutally like it? And if you only don't like it simply because "it's not X', then that's a shame.  If you don't like it because it doesn't work for you, that's fine.  The objections here to She-ra fit that though some on the internet seem to be "it's not MY She-Ra", which if you keep it at that it's all fine.  You should leave anyone who likes the show alone, because no one cares that it's not your She-Ra/Star Trek/Star Wars/Thor/etc.   (Ditto, "x ruined my childhoold".  Such a stupid concept.)

You misunderstand - I don't think a Korean version would work here not because they haven't seen the original but because it's not really geared for an American audience.  It's the CW - they'll want to make this for their audience and I daresay their idea of their audience isn't interested in the Korean version.

People complaining about people complaining about people complaining is also boring :).  It's the Internet.  People act like they are the authority on issues, like they have meaningful information to share or pontificate on how they think the world should be and round and round it goes.  Most of the opinions and commentary is trash lacking facts and rooted in opinion or feelings.  Nothing wrong with opinions and feelings, but they aren't very persuasive beyond cementing one's particular point of view.

Thing is - from many of these useless discussions of people's opinions, you can occasionally learn something.  Mostly not, it's mostly useless or mostly only tells you about them, but the only thing worse would be to not have discussions at all.  Only allow people who pat each other on the back, only allow people who agree and think alike.  That's a foolish and tragic idea.

If you're looking for only rainbows and kittens in a public forum you're going to be disappointed a lot.  Private is the way to go to police who joins to make sure it's only people who feel the same way.  Rather limiting, but it certainly would help keep discussions safe.
