Kara Cast!

I got his form Smallville's IMDB mesaage board with a link to People.com, Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort has been cast as Kara.

<applause> I think it is a good choice. They could have done much much much worse! Which is kind of what I expected ~ but I'm cynical.

Bring on the manips ~ oh wait ~ I'm having a hell of a time finding full body high quality pics.

The producers certainly love Canadian girls for this show. First Kristin Kreuk (Vancouver), then Erica Durance (Calgary), now Laura Vandervoort (Toronto). What can I say, they got good taste.

I'm still impressed. They couldn't have done any better. Nice face, nice longer blonde hair, no toothpic arms, solid legs, nice stomach, and enough chest to make it work.

She's starting filming in Vancouver on the 22nd of July.

She's a 22 year old Canadian actress who has played a superpowered villain (Tina) on MutantX and as a kick-ass vampire along with many other roles. She's got a blackbelt in karate and has had many supporting and minor roles in many movies as well as a leading role in a Canadian TV show. Her father is Dutch which explains her looks.

Supposedly Kara comes to Earth with more advanced powers than Clark's (like flight). She's also independent and a bit kick-ass and she isn't about to do things the Kansas way. She grew up on Krypton, not Earth like Clark, before being stuck in some kind of suspended animation -- which makes her about 16 years older than Clark by the calendar, but younger by a year in body). Earth will be totally new and completely foreign to her. She also is sweet on Jimmy Olsen (as hard as that is to understand). Or so I can divine from producer's comments.

Re: the AU site... I certainly haven't abandoned the site, but I've got ten stories that are all about half done, which explains the lack of postings.

I know I should just focus on getting one or two done so I can post it. I'll make it a goal to do that during the next month.

And I agree on Laura... I think they did cast Kara well. The challenge now is to see if the writing is up to the task.

Also, I'd once seen a note that suggested she would appear in the season opener (a continuation of the season closer called Bizarro). Something to do with the damn collapse that released her from suspended animation. But now I see that episode 7 is called KARA. Not sure if she's going to appear immediately or not. Perhaps she's appear briefly in a few episodes and then have an entire show dedicated to her story later. We'll see... I'm betting that since they didn't really decide on bringing her onto the show until a month or so ago that the writing is still underway.

BTW that tag she's wearing is apparently for the Christopher Reeve Foundation, a very nice touch I think.
