Deadline is May 1st.....

I never canceled, I just never gave a 100% commitment. I just don't know if I'll have time before the deadline. When is the deadline again?

1st of May if I remeber right.

If nobody else is going to do it I'm willing to try with the #3 "This woman". I don't have much time (I'm looking for work) so it'll be a very short submission, more a vignette than a true story.

In that case, I might cancel. For some reason, I was thinking I had until the end of May. With as slow as I write, as long a story as I'm planning, and everything else going on in my life, there's not much chance of my finishing by May 1.

Maybe I'll see how far along I get by then and submit just the first few chapters. But it's a slowly building story, so I don't expect to get to the really physical action until at least 4 or 5 chapters into it. I guess I'll just keep working on it and see how it goes.

Personally, I like to keep them above the age of 18....let's go with that as it can still fall under "high school senior"

ElF

You couldn't have waited until April to start this? I know, I know - You had to keep the momentum going from the discussion in the thread ( www.superwomenmania.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1993&start=0 ) that started it. My life's just so busy right now that I won't even know if I have enough free time to participate for at least another 3 weeks.

I'll say tentatively that I'll take #7, The Bully, but if someone else really wants that one, I'll step aside. I'll think about what I want to write if I have time, and let you know in 3 weeks if I can stay in or not. Just one thing - the bully topic seems like a very high school-ish theme. Is there a minimum age limit on the fictional characters in our stories?

YAGS

So now that I'm further along in my story, I have another question about pushing the limits of what's on topic here. How sexually explicit is the material here allowed to be? Especially when it involves high school students who may or may not have reached their 18th birthdays yet?

Actually, given how crucial the sex is to the plot of the story, and always has been in my brain as I was planning this thing, I probably should have thought to ask this question sooner.

Speaking for myself, in no official capacity whatsoever, I would say that these days I think it is best to be smart. If there is anything sexually explicit, then I think you should make it clear that she is at least 18.

As far as the general question of what is appropriate in terms of the sex, that's something I've been working back and forth on my story as well. The latest rewrite is less explicit, more because of how it fit the story than anything else.

Yeah - no 15 year olds having sex that could lead to a shutdown of this site please.

Agreed.....please keep characters > 18 yrs of age when sexual relations are involved. If the plot does not involve them becoming 18 years old yet, just move your timeline up. We're willing to suspend reader disbelief with the concept of "ubergirls", I think we can suspend people's disbelief with the occurance of 18 yr old HS coeds... :P

Well, as I said, the characters in my story may or may not be over 18. I haven't specifically set any ages, and I probably won't, though it's implied that my "Mean Girl" main character rules the school, so she's probably a senior.

I was more wondering how explicit the scenes were allowed to get.

So I never did get an answer to this. Is sex between consenting probably-18 year olds allowed? How about rape? In this story, sex isn't just a recurring theme - it's literally the main plot line. You'll understand when you read it, if I finish in time.

Speaking of which, is it too early to request an extension to the deadline? I am making progress, having finished 3 chapters and started the 4th so far. But given the audience, I really want to get to the point where there's some good violence and not just continuous sex before I share this story here, and that probably won't happen until chapter 7 or 8. As you can tell, I know exactly where I'm going with this story - it's just a matter of finding time to get it written down.

Probably ;) .

You're not getting clear answers because the answer is the same as it always is about what constitutes obscenity: "I know it when I see it." If graphic depictions are necessary for artistic effect, they're justifiable; if not, not. You have to use your own judgment. But the worst that can happen is that after we see it we'll decide to take it back down.

is it too early to request an extension to the deadline?

You don't need an extension; just be late. Submit it whenever you finish it; we'll enjoy it just the same.

Then what's the point of having a deadline? Participation in the workshop, the voting, getting more people to read your story because they're reading all the workshop stories, etc.

Besides, extending the deadlines on the workshops around here is something of a tradition. :P

I second YAGS's motion. JonX is planning a photoshoot for next week and he's clamoring for a script, so I've put "Crazy Psycho Super Bitch" on hold for the past few days. An extension to, say, May 11th would give us writers ten more days, including two additional weekends, to finish our submissions.

When I said I could probably make, it was because I was counting on one or more individuals asking for a deadline extension which I am all for as I am just starting on mine today!

Glad I could help.

Actually, my story is progressing nicely. I finished the 4th chapter, started chapter 5, and I know exactly what I want to write through chapter 7. After that, I have a bunch of ideas for later chapters, though I haven't decided on the exact order of events yet.

So given how slowly I write, I'm hoping to finish a chapter or two per week, which should get me far enough to share this thing by May 11. Given that it's a slowly escalating story, I just want to make sure I reach a certain point before sharing it, which will probably be chapter 8.

So will there be an extension? I drafted a scene of my story today. It's coming along pretty nicely, but there's no way it'll be ready on Friday. How about another two weeks?

We'll split the difference and say the deadline for voting is stories to be submitted by the 8th (next Friday). Stories maybe submitted afterward at any time, but those in the can on the 8th will only be eligible to win the prize (to be announced)

How about the 11th? That's only another couple of days, and it would give writers another weekend. I'm sure I'm not the only one who does most of his writing on Saturday and Sunday.

I second this motion, unfortunatly my story came together pretty bad and I'm trying to rewriting it. I can definitly use a couple of extra days.

I'm always in favor of a little extra time, as I'm such a slow writer, so I'll vote in favor of the 11th instead of the 8th, too. Though I'm not going to be available to work on my story that particular weekend, anyway, so it won't help me any. I just hope I have enough to submit by the 8th, either way. I didn't get as much as I'd hoped for done this past weekend.

So, this may seem silly, but what time is the deadline on the 11th? And what time zone? I wish I could work on my story this weekend, but I'm going on a weekend trip, so I won't have computer access between Friday morning and Sunday night.

I can probably finish enough of the story to submit by Thursday, but I'd like to get as far as possible with it, and still have some time to proofread before submitting. So I was thinking maybe I'd print out what I have by Thursday night to take with me on my trip, spend a little time proofreading with a red pen over the weekend, and then type my changes into the computer Monday evening after work. I just want to make sure that won't be too late to submit the story.

Ok, thanks. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish one more chapter tonight, which I wouldn't have time for if I was proofreading tonight, also. This way, I can print what I've got, proofread over the weekend here or there, and finish typing it up Monday evening before sending it in.
