15 Jun 2016 17:44 #48573 by tks
Hi Guys,

Ok this kickstarter project is now live. Hoping to have a draft script ready in a few hours so will attach it to the campaign but in the meantime take a look and if you fancy backing it it would be amazing (feel free to email any ideas for extra perks or if you'd like to contribute outside of these rewards)

www.indiegogo.com/projects/weight-of-the...o-movie/x/14381869#/

P.S. 5% of everything raised (even over funding) is going to be donated to SWM)

I for one will be in on this. Should be interesting to see how it all ends. Hopeful it funds more unique to our niche content.

Is the model shown going to be the model used?

Back it......look into you heart and what does it say? :P

Honestly any support is welcome and gratefully received. It would be awesome to shoot that scene though.

Thanks for pinging this again.

I dislike indiegogo, but it was worth funding the movie.

I must say the bonuses confused me, I took "digital copy of the movie" but later there are "extra scenes" things, which is confusing. Are those in the digital copy of the movie? Like the blooper reel (etc). If those were supposed to be add on perks it wasn't clear how to do that. (re: not a fan of idiegogo, but I get that you're getting $ no matter what, which Kickstarter won't do).

Ah ok. Yes so those are ad ons. The additional scenes will be extended (in some cases unseen) shots of those in the film. For those interested in longer versions of certain FX. I'm also new to indiegogo so not sure how to "ad on" perks. I think you just have to contribute separately each time (but not sure)

Thanks so much for your contribution :)

I could be wrong, but I don't think it works that way. It racks your perk to your login, and it's 1-1. There are notes on "upgrading your perk". (And it's awkward, you have to essentially be refunded your first pledge and make a new one.)

You can also add to your perk, and in a kickstarter people will often say in the comments, "If you want extra XXX, add $x to your pledge, $Y for this other thing." and then later they work out what people are owed over their base pledge. Usually it's via some kind of survey at the end, at the same time they get your address info, etc, "what extras did you pay for".

But in this case you'd have to find out what extra scene people wanted after the fact, because it'd be tacked onto an existing pledge. There seems to be something unsatisfying about this set up to me -- but I can also see it working for you as people really like certain kinds of scenes. It's a way to evaluate how popular they are and how much effort you should take (if any).

Conceptually for me the extra scenes seem like things that should happen if funding hits $X (extra scene 1, funders vote), $X+$Y: Extra Scene 2, funder vote, etc). And if you raise enough, all scenes will be filmed.

But that can be demoralizing to someone who wants a good super breath scene (not me, but I know some here that's there thing), and it gets voted at the last made and it doesn't quite make it.

And this is me thinking of it like a normal movie, and not how you usually sell things, which is in shorter clips, where this makes total sense. It's not like I'm against it, it's just a mismatch with the mental model in my head on how I'd normally expect a movie's perks to go.

But it seems like a good experiment in all, and I'm willing to try to help it along.

I've gotta say, I'm a bit surprised there hasn't been more intere$t in his campaign. I mean, his videos are a pretty proven commodity here in the ubergirl realm, and he is really the only producer right now regularly (e.g. monthly or more) pumping out content. That alone should be incentive for our community to get out and support him and his project. There is always a leap of faith with things like this, but I like to think he has a proven track record (www.supergirlmovies.com) and seems to embed a lot of things (bar bending, throatlift, superbreath) that most of us seem to be looking for.

Curious -- if people here are willing to say -- why more people haven't contributed. I know & respect that people have budgets and cant always contribute, but currently the number of contributors is at 7. That seems abnormally low around these parts.....

Also....Can't comment on gomaller's exact question of Callista, but there is a "prequel" of sorts featuring Torrence in the works that I commissioned and wrote the script for. It's still a little ways from being edited I hear, but it has been shot and I've seen some cool stills from it. :)

P.S. For full disclosure, I and/or SWM has no financial affiliation with TKS, and this post was not solicited or requested by him in any way. I'm just trying to promote our genre producers!

Maybe I'm just really dense right now (I am currently sick in bed), but I do not see a link to this funding campaign anywhere in this thread, nor anywhere obvious on the supergirlmovies.com website. Perhaps giving it more visibility would help.

You're not dense.....I am. I posted it in the wrong-but-somewhat-on-topic thread. I've since moved it to the more relevant campaign thread. Here is the campaign link (whichis listed at the top of THIS thread)

Fair enough question.

Over the years I've spent well over 2k in content whether it be commissions, comics, investing in future projects for friends, short film content, and long form movies.

Save for Jebriodo's commission work, everything else has always fallen short of what I thought I was paying for. Weak, or lack of, story, effects that seemed rushed or just lazy, terrible acting, terrible costumes (if any), and/or the superheroine was just not attractive. Not to mention the odd, falsely advertised, peril/porn movie. Always a blind purchase, misleading synopsis, or leap of faith.

The Superheroines, hot girls, great costumes, but the same set every time. Not even an attempt to change the backgrounds. And, of course, mostly peril.

Jonx, SMOKING girls, some even willing to go topless, but virtually zero effects.

Wicked City is great! Does 99% of the victims have to be throat lifted and neck snapped? It just gets old.

I can't even tell you how many commissions I've had to get corrected because the artist couldn't be bothered to read what I wanted. They made sure to get their money up front, though!

I'm sorry. I'm ranting and it's probably not fair.

I completely understand the obstacles involved and I'm not faulting any creator for that. I just will not front money for something that I'm not 100% sure that I'm getting what I want as a consumer. After its out, and I see positive reviews and a good idea it's something I'd enjoy, they can have my money. I'm usually willing to pay more than most, too.

All said with my upmost respect to the effort of any creators and what they go through.

I have been burned more times by Crowd funding campaigns than I care to count.

Promoting one actress and swapping her out at literally the last few days of the campaign once.
Fighting to get perks delivered.
One perk was the ability to see the movie before it was released only to have my DVD shipped after a theatrical premiere and the DVDs offered on E bay.
How about the one guy who had an un official crowdfunder and then bragged on Facebook about his new tattoo.
Do I have to mention the ones that just up and disappear?

Personally I think TKS is a stand up guy and will produce a quality movie.
I have enjoyed the movies I have purchased.
The one actress shown looks to good to be true.
Like I said I have been burned before.
$30 for a 30 minute movie is right in line with pricing
Looks like I'll give him a shot.

My experience in commissioning has been a polar opposite. I feel that most of the time I get MORE than I'd expect. But, I'm not generally asking for something very specific, I do generally have one, but it's framed with "I'd like an image that shows X. Here's an idea for that. Please feel free to try something else that does that."

I let the artist have some fun and do what they want, if it solves the ask better than my example. I encourage that, so I guess if it's not stellar, some of the blame is mine, and I'm not that upset. (But I don't think that happens too often.) OTH, I've several commissions that I look at regularly that were FAR MORE than I'd have thought of. And I think that % is higher than the "meh" percentage...

(There isn't anything wrong with being specific and asking for exactly what you want and being upset if that's not done! It's just not how I do things.)

I'm now pretty shameless, after you've commission Dr. Strange is Zatanna's fishnets, it's all down hill from there.

I also don't mind paying up front. Sure I'm owned art (or a refund) from a few artists, but it's only a few out of > 50 artists and 200 commissions. OTH, any artist who gets paid at the end? They'll have multiple horror stories about getting paid. I'd rather the artist not be worrying about that and instead be doing my commission. I'll take the small % of bozos, and instead focus on the good eggs. And there are a good half dozen artists i'd blindly send money too, knowing that I could work something out I'd love with no worries.

But that "too many at once" and a few artists that pissed me off (this is actually HARD to do) is part of the reason I slowed down. I need to pick back up again as I really enjoy it.

I'm pretty accurate for kick starters that aren't devices (so I tend to not do those anymore).

but books or comics, I'm scratching my head trying to figure out one that didn't come through. (about 40 total for Kickstarter)

One of the best pieces of advice I've ever learned was "don't worry about how other people spend their money" (with Gaiman's sub-corrollary "George R.R. Martin is not your bitch.") So the tattoo, unless the guy didn't deliver -- which if so I'd have lead with that because it's the real problem -- then I don't know why you cared enough to list it.

Hm. Ok, one book failed: it was pictures and interviews of Female combat pilots of WW II -- but that was sort of a lark anyway. Just having him TRY was partially good enough. If you've not heard of the Night Witches, the Russian Female Pilots of WW II, they were BAD ASS. (I did get some stuff out of him, it's not a total wash.

1 out of about 40 isn't bad. (we'll see about my current crop, they're still in progress.)

The other comics/books all worked in that I got a timely book/comic out of the deal and was reasonably satisfied with the result. Now I think 3 of them were books by the same author, the next in the series, so those were all pretty safe bets. (And I don't even read the kickstarter, he goes "next marla mason novel", I go "click/fund".)

And 2-3 devices (a bad idea all around for those). And 3 (4?) movies/shows, which all worked. One was Veronica Mars, I didn't think it was that big of a risk. The other was Con Man, which I also thought was pretty safe.

This is riskier than most of my other crowd funded things. (When I recognize actors in the movie, I don't think it's that risky -- esp if the actors help push the kickstarter, and that was true of all 3 that I funded.) OTH, it already has a script, and it's by someone who has filmed a lot of things before, so is actually capable of getting the task done. That's why I took a gamble and funded a bit.

But I do feel your pain about crowdfunding, and you hear about these things all the time. Just for some reason I seem to pick fairly well.

Either that or if you are crowdfunding you REALLY want me as a backer as I'm a good luck charm. ;-)

Exactly why I decided to pull the trigger and go forward with my contribution. If it were anyone else, with the exception of Random Studios asking for funds, I would shy away. AND, this video is gonna have a ton of cool fx in it and TKS knows what he's doing.
