Fall 2011 Workshop Ideas: DEADLINE extended 11/30

I think asking the author's permission is a courtesy rather than a legal matter. I can't imagine any of us saying "no." Besides, a fanfiction typically features characters that the author didn't invent anyway.

I have always been interested in "A day in the life" stories. Those deal with both work and other parts of the days. Including romantic & work relationships.

Of the suggestions so far, a day in the life of a superwoman sounds cool to me. For my own suggestion,

Superwomen meet for the first time: This could be the first time Supergirl meets Wonder Woman, or an evil superwoman meets her goody too-shoes counterpart. I'd think it gives writers a lot of options, only requirement a superwoman has to meet another for the first time.

DKC....you out there? I think we've milked all the suggestions from the users, so you now get the spoils of your victory by picking one! It shouldn't matter if you are gonna participate (though we hope you do!), but you get to choose! Get stepping!! :)

Of all of the ideas I like Diets "Through the looking glass" – Basically any hero somehow falls into another dimension where the same people exist but the world is very much different.

And Yosh’s “Continuum” The continuation of any story on SWM or any others.

So how about we do a “What If” Work Shop….Its probably been done before But its always fun to do. I think the “What If” concept encompasses both Yosh’s and Diets ideas….Sound good?

Are you limiting the size of the entries, or does anything go in terms of story length? I've got a (hopefully) interesting idea in mind, but need some space to work it.

No limit....the "seasonal" Workshops are of any length....will probably do a 1000 word WS soon with the "Superwoman walks into a bar..." setup suggested by Argo soon....

I've got a bit of an idea that I'll try to get written in time. Right now I can't guarantee that I'll manage though.

Just to be clear: The only requirement (aside from featuring one or more super-women) is that the story be set in some established continuity from any medium (comics, television, movies, popular fiction, etc)?

Okay, so, "What if Mary Jane had Spiderman's powers?" would be on topic for the story workshop, but "What if Angelina Jolie had superpowers?" would not be on topic, and would be punished by shunning and shaming, and general shenanigans?

See, I was thinking What if Angelina Jolie really was Laura Croft and she found the necklace of power?

I have a favor to ask.

In spite of work kicking my ass for the last couple of months, I have managed to finish the first draft of my workshop story. It's three chapters, about 20,000 words in total. I think it needs more work and editing down, but I don't think I'm going to be able to do that before November 15th. Work has calmed down, but there's been a death in my family which is going to take a lot of planning, energy and long distance travel.

Would somebody or somebodies be willing to look over my first draft and let me know if it's acceptable for the workshop, or whether I should sit on it? Maybe point out any egregious errors.

The concept is similar to the old thread discussion we had where Supergirl was DC's most popular character instead of Superman. The story is about Supergirl-Prime, who is a female equivalent of Superboy-Prime. She's evil. There is a lot of unpleasant violence, but no sexual content.

PM me with an email if you are interested.

Thank you.

On a related point, could I ask for an extension on the deadline to November 30? I suspect others could use a bit more time as well.

I've spent so much time on Sunshine Tomorrow that my contest entry story is lagging. I could use the two week extension to do it right.

One other question... will it be acceptable to input the contest store in PDF format with embedded images?

I dont see why not, extensions can be bought from me at a cost of $1000 per week, all payments should be sent to iwanttomakefatsarichbastard@money.com

What a deal...I'll send it right over, Fats. Given all the moolah we make on these stories, riches uncounted (just try to count it...you can't) it's a good investment for sure.

Where was said that the deadline was on Nov 15th? I'm pretty sure the news about that said 'by the end of november' which would be the 30th.

Then again I'm spending my time on continuing my other story instead of cooking something up for the workshop, so ...
