Vanessa Kirby would be a good choice.  Looks and talent.

Peace.

Bandstand would make a much better Bionic Woman. AN will cast some one younger like Josephine Langford.

Sy Fy channel is running an end of summer movie marathon this week featuring Shark themed movies.
I like to watch these types of movies for their low budget cheese and all the bikini babes that get featured.

I give you Kabby Borders (what a name) star of Toxic Shark

You get the most bikini action in this one.
On a side note the Yoga Teacher dude complete with ManBun who is in perfect harmony with nature gets it pretty good in this flick.

and Dam Sharks

A couple glamour shots

She has done nude work also but you can find that yourself.

These movies save money wherever they can.
Stunt doubles are a luxury so we see Kabby doing many of her own stunts in this movie.

I am smitten with this actress for right know.
We'll see who comes along next week.

I still say you should cast a relative unknown for the role.
Supergirl is all about youth and innocence.
The thing about casting Supergirl is you have to find a young actress.
She would have to be in her late teens during the audition because she would probably be two years older by the time they get around making the movie.
If you spot an accomplished actress now you would have to make the movie tomorrow.

I guess young actresses don't smile for pictures anymore.
Or agents don't pass out pictures of young women smiling to news media.

They don't smile when they are trying to look dramatic or substantial for whatever. Happiness is an easy emotion to share. Any pretty face can do it. Every model can.

But the ability to portray dark, complicated, complex, dramatic serious and even dangerous emotions is where good actresses make a living and models fail spectacularly.

As I see it, anyway.

The first thing I would like to see in an audition for Supergirl is to see Supergirl smile.

MB lights up the small screen when she smiles.

MB indeed has an amazing smile. Not sure that has to be a SG trait, but it definitely works for Melissa's portrayal of her. Her face truly lights up.

Laura Vandervoort wouldn't be a bad shout, after all she has the experience and she is a great actress.

Laura V would indeed be a terrific choice if the movie was written about SG in her late 20’s and beyond. She’s 34, about Henry Cavill’s age.

But I’m guessing the movie is going to do the obligatory origin story where SG is in her teens.

But ten years ago, she would have gotten all my votes. She had the perfect look for the role, IMHO.

She has always looked younger than her age. But nobody can stretch 34 (36 before movie is likely made) down to 15 or 16.

I'm going to make my first suggestion and that is Eliana Jones, she's young (20) and got the body for the role as well as an SG: TV cast member.

Quite the resemblance, Fats.

As in the past I think that the big point is what aspect of the character this movie is going to explore. Markie pointed out that Melissa Benoist has this really infectious smile, which is perfect for the TV Supergirl, because that version of the character is based around the idea of her being, above all, a really nice and cheerful girl, which just happen to have superpowers. Lynda Carter said something similar about how she imagined Wonder Woman during the TV series: a brave woman, who accidentally have superpowers.
If the production team decides to go with another interpretation of Kara, this might require a completely different kind of face. Laura Vandervort was a much more distant and alien version of Supergirl.

On the subject of smiling, I have disagree a bit with Shadar's interpretation: a model is often required to "smile and look pretty", whereas an actress should "smile as if you mean it". This is actually pretty tough to pull out, because some of the muscle groups involved in a honest smile are completely involutary and controlled by our parasympathetic system. PArt of an actor training is learning how to force-trigger these reactions.

She is absolutely gorgeous fats...You must have some inside info here! She's born and raised in Toronto,Canada where the film will probably be shot. I would add some pics of Elenia but the iPad is playing up. Maybe later...Still going with Annasophia Robb tho!

Fats has a winner here in my book... Eliana Jones is so perfect she HAS to be Kryptonian.

I'll include a quote from Ireland Baldwin (pict below) about her mother, Kim Basinger: "I have no idea how someone can be born that beautiful."  That applies to Eliana.

And given that Ireland stands 6'2" and is 22 years old and very blonde, she'd be a decent candidate for the role if she had acting experience (or was a natural) and they wanted someone young but also as tall as Henry Cavill. Maybe Kryptonians are naturally reallyl tall.

And yes, she likes to smile.

So who's the little guy behind her?  Oh, yeah, her dad.

Maybe we shouldn't get too excited. There's a theory that they don't even want to make the movie; it's just a bargaining move to get Henry Cavill to re-up as Supes.

I think there is a new breeze blowing in Hollywood.
The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy tried to play hardball with the studio and throw their weight around and they have all been benched.
Henry Cavill better figure out which team he wants to play for quick.

Supergirl is on the on deck circle.

Nothing here says he couldn’t still do more roles as Superman if he wants to. The danger is that he gets too strongly type-cast, so he may pass on Superman when given the opportunity.

Reeves had a problem with type-casting before he was injured. Whenever I saw him playling another role, I kept thinking Superman. I don’t feel that way about Cavil, although I suppose YMMV.

But then, anything that increases the probability of a decent Supergirl movie is welcomed by me. Put Patty Jenkins on the job (if she’s not loaded up with WW forever, which would be Ok too) and see if she can interpret another DC female superhero in a satisfactory way. Zack Snyder would totally screw it up, but then I think that everything Snylder does. But Josh Whedon?  He proved his chops with Buffy and Firefly in my book. He understands how to portray strong women. He claims he’s never outgrown his love of teenage superheroines.

In that regard, I get hiim. I haven’t either.

Theres been rumors going around (for a while now), that Cavill could be up for the role of Bond once Craig leaves.  The Witcher is certainly an interesting choice, and has potential.

I agree with you Shadar, Reeves couldn't quite shake off that Superman image for me either, though I do remember him being a decent actor to be fair.  He was good in Noises Off and Somewhere in Time (can't remember the title, but a pretty moving love tale involving time travel if i remember correct).

I don't think Cavill will have that problem.  He was really good (imo) in Man from Uncle, and also in MI:Fallout.  I didn't once think of him as Supes in those films. So if MOS 2 doesn't materialize, or if he doesn't fancy it, he will have options for sure.

With regards to Supergirl, its still just talk.  Nothing has been mentioned (at least I haven't seen anything) to suggest it has gone beyond execs mentioning it.

And tbh, I wouldn't let Patty Jenkins near it.  I heard her at the SDCC panel this year, she just does not get WW tbh.  That film lucked out, in terms of box office, on the zeitgeist and IMMENSE hype from everyone and their mother.

I would much prefer Joss to take the helm (and write) on that.  At least he gets superheroines/strong women and has the credentials to back it up.

Peace.

/K

P.S.  Good shout on Ireland Baldwin as a casting call.  In that bikini shot, I can definitely see a lot of her mother in her.  Though I'm not sure she is an actress like her by trade.
