Maybe they can make enough from streaming to not go broke. I doubt theaters are going to provide much revenue this winter due to Covid.
But next summer (or whenever everyone has been vaccinated) I expect the theater experience to be highly sought by the majority of the market for this movie.
That will cause havoc with the usual movie metrics, but could still generate serious coin for the studios.
Question is whether studios can adapt to a new hybrid model or if they will try to go back to the exact place they were pre-Covid.
I’m hoping the early exposure to streaming, coincident with theater, will be a lasting improvement due to Covid. I wasn’t personally a big theater person before Covid.

I am not going to a theater anytime soon and I do not have HBO Max.

That's what I'm doing. We already have HBO on DirecTV, so we can get MAX for free. Beyond the excellent shows that HBO already produces, it seems to be a place where a number of movies that have been frustrated with the temporary pause of theater experiences are releasing movies. I suspect that will continue for a while.
Nice thing is that I can also carry that over to my AppleTV device without paying another fee, or so it appears.

Unfortunately I can't get HBO in the UK so if WonderWoman doesn’t come out in the cinema then I don’t know when I’ll be able to see
it.
I’m rather worried because this was meant to be the bigyear for female lead action films with Birds of Prey, Black Widow, WW84 and James Bond (not female lead but featuring a prominent female agent) all coming out. However due to the pandemic all of them have suffered (to a greater or lesser extent) and are not likely to have the box office returns they could otherwise expect.
I just hope this doesn’t lead to other female lead action/superhero films being cancelled after they have finaly started to become popular.

Same here. Eyes closed when it comes to WW84.
I got HBO Max just for this, and I truly want to be surprised. All I know now is that its really good. That's enough.
To my surprise, all kinds of movies are headed to Max next year, simultaneous with theater release.
Theater owners are freaking, but I love it

If theatres aren't open then it means nothing.
If WB was going to go down this route with HBOmax, they should have figured out and got its international streaming figured out.

Beauty of streaming is that I can download the movie and watch it, or portions of it, again and again, with slow-mo and pause. And extract short segments to make my own library of the best stuff.
That WAY beats theaters where you have to buy another ticket to watch again. Plus its really hard to get the theater to stop and back up to rewatch the cool parts over and over. <grin>
Theaters are dead to me. Long live the 21st century and streaming with downloaded and saved content.
