Ubergirl competition - taking requests

03 Jun 2006 17:40 #5683 by YAGS
I'm writing another story, and I've got some creative ideas for it, but I'm looking for a couple more suggestions.

Part of the concept is a small group of ubergirls with equivalent powers having a competition. They're all going to perform the same tasks with their powers to see who can do each task the best. You'll understand why once you see the story.

For instance, I've got one idea, where they're all strong enough to lift a car, but it's still a little difficult for them. So it would be like a normal person trying to lift a slightly heavy box that's an awkward shape. They could compete to see who could keep the same car off the ground the longest.

Can you come up with other ways for them to test their super-strength against each other to see who uses it better? Something like arm wrestling just wouldn't be interesting, especially since they'll all be exactly the same strength. With the car thing, they can all try to maneuver the car off the ground by grabbing it different ways and learning from each other's previous mistakes. Thus, it's less about level of strength and more about effectiveness in using it.

What other types of competitions would you like to see them engage in?

I'm taking requests, if it can fit into the theme of the story. It needs to be non-destructive, although "playing" with normal people is ok, as long as nobody gets hurt (sorry ConceptFan). They can even destroy some property, like that car, as long as they don't go overboard. So knocking down occupied buildings is out, but helping a demolition crew with an abandoned wreck of a building might fit into the story, if someone has a suggestion for how to turn it into a competition.

Also, it doesn't have to be just super-strength. I've already got a super-breath competition in this one (sorta). Suggestions for other powers to give them and competitions for using those powers are also welcome.

Let me know if you've got any ideas.

So I'm just getting back into visiting this site regularly, and I noticed this thread I started over 2 years ago that nobody ever responded to. I never did finish this story, though I do have a chunk of it done, and an outline for much of the rest.

I also never figured out the best way to handle a "super strength competition" between ubergirls, so if I do start working on the story again (which I may, but no guarantees), I'm still open to suggestions. I hadn't decided exactly how strong the girls should be, either, so that's flexible, depending upon the strength requirement for the competition. Let me know if anyone has any requests.

Sounds cool to me, I hope you do finish it.

Events might include a large-object throw (Olympic hammer with a car or an n-ton lead weight, or javelin with a sharpened caber), a martial-arts-style breaking event (how many slabs of concrete or what thickness of steel can you penetrate with a single strike?), a (timed) knot-tying competition with using steel bars [yes timed knot-tying is a real-world pastime]... if more ideas occur to me later I'll post 'em.

As an homage to the classic "Superman" introduction, the competitors could ...

1. outrace speeding bullets
2. pit their strength against a locomotive
3. leap tall buildings (in a simgle bound)

P.S. Welcome back to the forum, YAGS.

Thanks for the suggestions.

This was actually a pretty long story that I (obviously) started writing years ago. I actually knew EXACTLY where I was going with it, from start to finish, and I wrote up a detailed outline, which helps when returning to it after such a long break.

One of the central concepts of the story is that these ubergirls are going to have three competitions to see who uses their identical powers best. I actually have fun and oddly creative ideas for the first and third contests (they're in that specific order for story flow reasons), but I want to work super strength into the second one, since strength really isn't a focus in the others. Actually, super strength isn't really a focus in the story at all - this story is almost off topic here, other than having non-strength based magic and being a direct sequel to one of my other stories that's already in the SWM Story Bank.

Just three? I've been thinking of something along similar lines, but more like being sponsored by her classmates and then showing off her powers on tape. So far I got (ignoring of course, possible damages to public health, safety and property, or assuming that time is not too much of an issue)

Invulnerablity: Being shot at by a sqaud of young males armed with t-shirt cannons.

Flight/Co-ordination: Sitting in mid-air, lotus style, upside down, and drinking from a slurpee or shaved ice.

Superbreath/Strength/Speed: Shooting a huge ball of stuff out of a makeshift air-cannon, running faster than the cannon-ball-of-stuff, and catching it before it hits the ground or something else, and stopping it.

Heat-Vision/X-ray vision: Can't thiink of...yet.

I'm thinking of using freezing breath and then the 'sponsers' having to abide by thier 'client's wishes for the next day after filming, and a full week when they win, along with some other prize or so.

Yeah, guys, haven't seen you in a while, and it's been five years of putting stuff in my head back in order.

Seeya soon,

OCT

Heh. Interesting suggestions, OCT, but it sounds like you've got your own story idea going that you should write.

Mine's very... different. Mine really aren't your typical ubergirls, and the two competitions I've come up with so far are nothing like you'd expect. Like I said, my story's currently bordering on being off topic for SWM, which is part of the reason I want to make a point of throwing super-strength into it, besides the fact that I think it'll go along well with the primary plot line.

I think you guys are either going to laugh really hard or else hang your heads and mutter "What are we coming to?" when you see what this story's actually about. :p
