Right. Supergirl being super. That's really cutting it.

I just got into comics recently, so I'm already confused. But I'm trying to catch on, with "The Adventures of Supergirl" (boring, TV-style), Power Girl (pretty hot), Starfire (quite hot, alternative), Superwoman (2016, unsure yet) et al.

I think its an exploration of the juxtaposition of her having the powers but still being a teenager.... with acne and everything. The more well adjusted house guests from Krypton still crave human approval, which is pretty much the cornerstone of teen drama. Its one of those things that tends to curb the "you know I could just destroy this whole planet, right?" behavior.

It might not be novel, but if well written teenage angst can be a nice break from superhero angst ;). Though it does seem more of theme for a maxi-series (~12 issues) than ongoing to me.

Definitely going to keep an eye on this. I'm a sucker for supers who are coming to terms with their place in the world either pre-or-post career as well as casual displays of superpowers.

Teen Supergirl had acne?

Come on.

There is no way the world would have survived that.

It must have been a spot of kryptonite...
Loving the cover page artwork of her flying upside down in wonderment (possibly her first discovery of flight?) You have to turn the image upside down to appreciate it. Surely her long blonde hair can't defy grav...nevermind!

ETA also, what looks like the sleepwalking....ok the sleepflying scene looks a good take where she bursts through the farmhouse roof; "Um, sorry Pa, I was having some strange dreams about floating"

Bumping.

Also, the comic is out now on Comixology. Already read it this morning and the art is perfect for what they are going for.

I bought the digital version through the IOS DC Comics app.

Very interesting new take (not canonical!!) on Kara's lifr growing up with the Kents. Which was something only Kal El did in the canon. Focus is on svhool and sports and her turning 16 and her friends.

It"s totally written for a 2016 teenage audience, set in the current time with current urban norms translated into Kansas style (one of her best friends is openly gay, for instance, and that's totally OK with everyone.) I loved the art and liked the nice portrayal of current liberal cultural norms. She has to do a paper on famous people who have changed the world and Kara picks Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Overall it felt completely real and normal in its portrayals, including Kara struggling with hormones, etc. in ways that suggest she's going to display some Kryptonian weirdness in future issues. As it is, she's got the full package of powers, presumably fully developed. Like carrying a tractor around in one hand while casually texting with her other as her dad clears a space for her to set it down.

If this sounds interesting, there are many other things you'll like. If this offends your politics, then stay far away. This is a modern story, not a 50's story like the original comicbook portrayals.

Bought the 1st issue and havn't read it all yet, but it looks like Superman's childhood on Earth if he was female. Not comic book or tv cannon at all. Kara seems more like Clark in some ways than she does on her tv show.

And taking a selfie on her mobile with the other hand as well, much to the annoyance of her Earth father - or maybe he is jealous of her easy display?

Actually, from what I remember of the comic, he was angry because she had a tendency to bend the frames on his tractors and gear when she wasn't paying proper attention.
