Jimmy Olson and Kara Zor El
On TV we've got Smallville's Jimmy (who wasn't terrible) and Supergirl TV's James (who is absolutely awful relative to the character's proper history). But Kara and Jimmy must have had a number of encounters during the long history of the comic books.
Do any of you Supergirl historians out there have some insights into the two of them?
What did Jimmy, who essentially worshipped Kal El and was a sidekick, think of Kara? One would imagine she loomed large in Jimmy's thoughts, but in which ways? Jimmy probably also had insights into Kal that Kara lacked, which might have intrigued her.
Any adventures they had together?
Did they ever have any romantic interest in each other, or even a fling?
I know they had interactions in the comics, both canonically and in the non-canonical issues, but I can't get my head around how they thought about each other or how they might have worked together.
And by the way, the working relationship between Kara and Jimmy, whatever it was or we imagine it could be, could be the topic of workshop. Not the TV show version of James, but the comic book.(or possibly Smallville) version of Jimmy.

ETA I don't think 'James' Olsen's character really works. It could be that the new franchise is stuck with him after season one.

For some reason I always picture Kara and Jimmy giving the dating a try and the whole story ends up with the joking about it being the worst date ever.
In general I think that they pretty much nailed it in a Power Girl issue where she said that Jimmy is almost as next-door-nice-guy and clean as Clark is, which is probably what would kill Kara's interest in a more profound relationship after a while, although I can totally see them being best friends for quite a long time.

We're talking steady as a rock, trustworthy, moral paragon committed to justice and quite capable of getting into and out of trouble without being continuously damsel'ed by his lover. And you get some touching moments where he's all "I love that you worry about me. And I worry about you, believe it or not. But you know this life IS me. I'll always want you close and looking out for me. But you can't swaddle me." Someone possessed of themselves and used to working underfoot of gods whose dick won't shrivel when faced with villain's vault door-like front gate looks at his love and says "mind getting the door?"
Seeing those two really settle in to the life of a heroes-couple could be glorious.

www.superwomenmania.com/supergirltl/list.html (Click Jimmy's name in the character's side options.)
Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #51, #57, #75 and #102 are the issues you should pay attention to.
