For me Season 1 was actually superior to JLU in many ways, although it's not a fair comparison. JLU was ashow built around single episodes, whereas YJ was based around serial narrative.

The season of JLU with the Cadmus arc was pretty good. I think you can tell better stories when you can expand ideas past the 22/44 minute limit.
