This show's been in development for a couple years now, with a March 2018 premiere date finally revealed today. The show basically follows the same vein as Gotham in that it provides a new take on the mythology, while not sharing continuity with any preexisting movies or TV shows. The new synopsis(below) does change things up a bit from what was originally thought to happen, so time will tell if this is a good thing or not.

Set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, KRYPTON follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray, Seg-El encounters Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) who warns he’s under the clock to save his beloved world from chaos. Fighting to redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves, Seg is also faced with a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson.

Except... Kryptonians do not have special abilities or powers on their planet under a red sun. So this is a story about rather ordinary aliens living on a strange world before any history we know.

Might be interesting for some, I suppose, but it doesn't really fit into our usual genre that has to have a least one character with powers.

Or so I see it...

Well, Krypton had seriously advanced technology so maybe somebody will end up making an Iron Man-esque battlesuit? Or maybe some creative use of gravity-manipulation tech? Super Soldiers could also be a possibility considering Krypton probably had gene-modding tech...

The problem with prequels are that the end is often known or too predetermined. A good example is Caprica, the prequel Sci-Fi series for Battlestar Galactica. It was cool on how the Cylons were created before their revolt. However, it is hard to get invested in any character since we know the ultimate outcome. Cylons rebel, humans win, Cylons return and nuke Caprica to radioactive dust. In Krypton, we know what is going to happen. There is no choice. Krypton will explode, and Kal-El will be sent to Earth. Everything he does to save his family is meaningless because we know that he ultimately fails with Kal-El and Kara Zor-El being the only survivors. At least in the Star Wars prequels, you had the Fall of the Old Republic and Clone Wars, along with how Emperor Palpatine rose to power and turned the Jedi Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader.

I have not watched Gotham since the 2nd half of the second season. However, the series kept trying to shoehorn every major Batman villain into the show. Even the villains who were more created either by or as a reaction to Batman. Not to mention how they all seemed to go to the same high school with Bruce Wayne in the beginning. IMO, Gotham could work well as a 30's-style crime noir thriller set in modern day Gotham. Maybe have Gordon working with Bruce Wayne's father who is trying to clean up the city, but is ultimately killed at the end of the first season or later.

Machines are OK, but nothing beats curvaceous muscles turning to steel as they stretch tight, tanned skin...

Can we have a teenage blonde Helen Slater please? (Obviously not Helen herself, but a Soon-to-be-Super Doppelganger would be good.)
