So, Snyder announced that in 2021 HBO Max would get “The Snyder Cut” of Justice League.

Today, a story came about about the cost....

www.ign.com/articles/justice-league-the-...on-says-hbo-max-boss

And the headline is generous, quoting a $30 Million cost..  Here’s the actual quote:
Greenblatt described the Snyder Cut as "a radical rethinking of that movie" and "complicated and wildly expensive. Which is, of course, a number I won't quote... I'll just say I wish it was $30 million and stop there."
In general my reaction is “More art makes the world better”.  Having the Snyder cut exist will be great.  I probably won’t like it, but many will and will greatly enjoy it.  Those that don’t they wont’ be out anything (except maybe the time if they’re forced to watch it).

That makes it’s existence awesome.

OTH THIRTY MILLION? That’s freaking insane.

Given that number came from HBO, I don't know if that's the additional cost to finish the movie Snyder's way,
or if that's the price HBO pays for exclusive rights to the movie, which would presumably be much higher than
multiple licensing costs.

It's a bold move for HBO MAX given the cost and the interest the movie draws. Streaming has just trumped theatrical
for a movie that would always have gone to theaters in the past. Maybe a permanent
change in balance of power between Streaming and Theatrical?  Or just a temporary thing?

Either way, from a purely entertainment perspective, it'll be very interesting to see what a 'radical rethinking of the movie" becomes.

Personally I wasn't a fan of Man Of steel nor Batman vs Superman, so can't say I have high expectations of the Snyder cut.

Maybe we can get one or two cool new action scenes and maybe the ending where WW defeats Steppenwolf.

The $30 million+ is the budget to finish the movie.  Thats for FX, music (which has been completed by Junkie XL), editing, ADR, etc.

From what I understand, no additional footage is to be shot, which would increase the cost SIGNIFICANTLY.   However, having said that, it doesn't mean there won't be new shots.  Superheros are, for the most part, stuntmen in costume or CGI creations.  I would not be surprised if half the shots of Superman and Batman we see are pure CG.  And thats fine by me :)

I've said before, I'm personally not a fan of the DCEU (as I have criticised MANY MANY times here :P ), so for me, the Snyder Cut is more a curiosity I might get round to watching.

However, having said that, I am beyond HAPPY that fans of this are getting the chance to see it.  Having known ppl who have been on a two+ year crusade, have that rewarded is great.

Additionally, it shows a turning point possibly.  This is one of the few times a COMPANY/STUDIO has listened to fans and responded in recent memory.  (the Sonic movie being another, where they went and redid the design of Sonic).

This is great for fans.  It reminds them that they actually DO have power, and "voting with your wallet" does work.

AT&T, make no mistake, are using this as a marketing promotion to get eyes on HBO MAX, and get them some subs.  And there is NOTHING wrong with that.  They want to make money.  They have seen there is a large enough fan base for this, that it could be worthwhile for them.  $30 million is nothing, when you can make back 5x or more in subs.

So i totally get why they decided to go for #releasethesnydercut.

The question now is, will they do this with other films?  The Ayer Suicide Squad cut maybe?

Will be interesting to see where this goes for sure.

Peace.

Love the fact that we are finally going to see The Snyder Cut. While I wasn't a huge supporter of the movement, I did retweet it several times over the past few years and took part in a couple of the charity campaigns those people put out.

If Disney can spend $100 Million to make The Mandalorian exclusively for Disney+ and expect it to pay off in new subscriptions then WB/ATT/HBO should have no problem spending $30-$50 Million for the Snyder Cut and have it pay off also.
