SGI Workshop 1.11 Entries by DKC and AK now available!! was created by admin
Due to a slower than expected response, the powers-that-be at SGI have decided to extend the deadline for Story Workshop 1.11 indefinitely.
In the meantime, SWM proudly presents the first two entries:
Superman Nil - Ultra Woman Nell by DKC and Where No Yeoman Has Gone Before by AK.
Thank you so much to the two authors. You can enjoy the stories in the SWM StoryBank by clicking the link at the top of this page, or see the latest stories at: www.superwomenmania.com/storybank/index-d.html

Relative to AK's entry, I wish he'd give credit for "borrowing" nearly the entire second half of his story from an old Adventures of Aurora story of mine. It's basically word for word my story other than a change in setting, character names and weapons (moving from ordinary Earth weapons to Romulan weapons).
I debated whether I should be flattered or annoyed, but have decided to simply ask that the story be properly credited.
Starting about 1/3 of the way down the file I've linked, you'll find the same plot, events and words as the second half of AK's. I first published my story in 1995.
Not sure if you like AK's version of it or my original story better, but I would like to be credited for the material that was lifted from my story.

Well, you could write yet another story where Aurora is taking AK AK fire!

AK's a brilliant writer in this genre and so are you. What's the big deal? He's tacitly acknowledging that he couldn't have phrased that part of the story better than you did all those years ago. What a compliment!
Besides, it's not a pop song that's made millions that rightfully should be yours. It's just a piece of fantasy fiction for a free internet forum dedicated to supergirl-fetishists. The comments this has provoked on another related forum leave me stunned and disappointed. I was under the impression that SWM was supposed to be a portal that encouraged the sharing of ideas and inspiration with the ultimate goal of increasing the volume of content available for its super-/uber-girl-loving members to ENJOY.
AK, PLEASE keep contributing your fantastic writings.
Shadar, PLEASE keep contributing your fantastic writings.
Everyone else, PLEASE don't be put off submitting work.
Just my opinion.
Love,
Supergirl's Sex Slave (in my annual hour off).

No debate. The correct and only sensible answer is: you should feel flattered. And let it go.I debated whether I should be flattered or annoyed,

It's one thing to encourage writing (and I fully support that), but its another thing to borrow someone else's work without acknowledging them in a credit.
I've always encouraged people to take my work and expand it, or even to use it outright, but only after asking and at least referencing where it came from. As you say, we don't make money on this.
It's such a simple thing, but a HUGE deal to those of us who spend hundreds or thousands of hours trying to create something interesting for this audience.
So yeah, its a big deal.
But it shouldn't put off anyone else who wants to write... just give credit where its due and keep going. Then you will flatter and not annoy anyone.

Somebody at another board said the FIRST part of AK's story was cribbed from a STAR TREK novel. I wouldn't know; I never read the ST novels; but if that's true....
I've read and loved a lot of AK's stories, especially MARLEN. But whereas those were clearly part of the genre Shadar created, they weren't simply rehashes as with Part 2 of the present work. There IS a difference between inspiration and plagiarism. One case of the latter, I recall -- I think it was at the old SGI -- was a rehash of "Paul," the story conceived by Evelyn Y and written by Shadar. Only the names were changed in the rehash.
A while back, I wrote a spin-off of Larafan's Ultrafemme series, called "The Adaptive Intimate," inspired by a throwaway line in a previous story of that series; but I worked hard to make it fresh and inventive. Even in amateur fiction, writers owe us honesty and originality. AK is surely old enough and experienced enough to know that.
