I have to agree. That certainly is a very enjoyable tale. And there seems to be plenty of ground for a sequel. The greatest weapons of the Cold War are not going to be nuclear bombs, they're the superwomen of the rival superpowers.

If only the film "A Bridge too Far" actually included this little story.

That's the elevator pitch. "It's 'A Bridge Too Far' with a supergirl!"

If anybody is interested, this is the original Liberty Belle:

Very enjoyable! I love the "Alternate Histories" concept. It breathes some new life into our genre by opening up so many unexplored settings and situations. You're obviously a history buff, but even so I imagine a fair amount of research goes into each of these tales.

As always, you've given us a well-written, fast-paced story with vivid action scenes and a very appealing heroine. Add me to the list of those who'd like to read a sequel. The idea of a Cold War era in which an American super-woman and her Soviet counterpart maintain the balance of power has lots of possibilities. China might add its own super-woman to the mix, and maybe a few of those German scientists escaped to South America and continued their research ...

I haven't finished to read tyhe story yet, but I agree 100% with Argo, like many other Alternate Histories this story has a good potential for a sequel. Apart from the idea of a new "balance of terror", based upon the control over super-women, there so many questions this story left open. For example:

- What happens when someone try to create a superman?

- What can the consequences of a "super-women escalation" be?

- Liberty Belle looks like a nice good girl, but what about her counterparts, what if one of them decides to make a little coup on her own?

This is a 100% good story, great work Geekseven.

Okay, here we go.

I love alternate histories, and I liked your story pretty much, even if it had some points that seemed a little long to me (don't know how to tell you what I mean, but I think she did many things several times in light variety.) The setting was great, the details seemed authentic, though, without knowing anything about military strategy, I'd say the german army might have collected everything that was dropped somewhere around.

All in all, Id give you 7 out of ten points for the story. But I have to subtract one, since it does not seem to me you do know much german and didn't take the time to ask somebody who does. On the other hand you could say I dont know enough to write english, but this is no story. So if you need a german sentence sometimes in the future, drop me a PM. The other reason for the substraction is, the story is too gooy for my taste, just too much blood.

Risatara

P.S.: Since I now read the other posts about your story: Id like a sequel to this one, too.

P.P.S.: The sentence "Schießen das Mädchen" seems to be translated with a or word for word from "shoot the girl", but it sounds.. not that good. Good would be "Erschieß das Mädchen" or since I'd think a command has to be short "Erschieß sie" (shoot her)

I really dug this story a lot & wanted to say that IMO this community could stand to have many more leading ladies like Lt. Janowski... truly likable, good-hearted & sweet girls with superpowers who proudly & admirably accept the responsibility to use them for the greater good.

Thank you for the props, everyone. I'm feeling quite self-conscious now.

A sequel is... certainly possible. As always, anybody who wants to extend the universe is more than welcome to.

Risatara, your points are well taken. It has been a long time since I studied German (23 years ago) and I relied on Google translate. I'm sure the Polish phrase ("Good Luck!") has issues as well. Also, Eisenhower's use of the word "paras" may be incorrect. I apologize for the poor phrasing. Your English is certainly far better than my German ever was.

As for the gore. Well, war is hell... If gore is not your thing, then you should probably avoid most of my other stories... At least Liberty Belle is not a sadistic monster like some of my other "characters"; if that's the right word for my gallery of 2-dimensional killing machines.

I do have ideas for stories with supergirls who are good-hearted, not prone to killing people by accident, and who don't have to fight in a war. I just haven't finished writing any of them yet...

Overall, I probably should have done one more draft, but rewriting is one of the skills that I am still working on.

I think there are enough WW2 pin-ups to fuel a long thread in "I wish she was super"!

I just wanted to state, what I thought. And I know that it is me, I like "good" supergirls and -women better then bad, and I like it better if they avoid killing as good as possible (would be possible in a war, but of course the character can't do it, with the story she has). I just thought I criticise a little, if its all right. :P

I really enjoyed this story (it's probably my favorite out of all you've done) and I hope you're able to write a sequel to this.

Thanks for contributing!

Speaking of pin-ups and nose art, take a look at the movie "Ensign Pulver," especially the nose art on the transport plane carrying the nurses. She might remind you of somebody, except that the movie dates to 1964.

I spent much of the day looking online for a pic, without success. If anyone finds it, I'd appreciate seeing it here. It'd be easier than trying to describe the pin-up, especially as I haven't seen the movie for a couple of years.

"Lt. Angela Janowski of the Women's Army Corps saluted crisply as she entered
the office of General Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe..."

"... Angela saluted again. "Liberty Belle, reporting for duty, Sir!" With that, she
turned, ran out of Eisenhower's office and launched herself into the air. When
she reached an altitude of 10,000 feet, she banked and made for Holland..."
