For those who might have frequented Dusty's Mankillers site, you will undoubtedly remember he was working on an ubergirl saga called "The Siege" and he was gracious enough to let me post it here -- along with the next chapter!!

And when I say "saga" I mean it! Right now it is 212 pages long and still going!! An EXCELLENT piece of writing from Dusty and a clear illustration of the fact that ubergirl fiction comes in all packages -- small and BIG!

Thanks to Dusty and please give him kudos via this thread if you have the chance!

That's really massive, I was really disappointed when Dusty closed his blog, but I understand the reasons, I hope to see some other of his contribution here.

Holy cow! I downloaded it and got through the first 12 pages so far (not a lot of time ATM)... but it looks very good. I'll let you know once I've finished it.

I'm reading the Siege now, and its extraordinarily good. It's a long, involved story that requires close reading to fully enjoy, but I'm incredibly impressed. This is one of the most intense and visceral, even visual, depictions of superwomen, not to mention Amazons, that I've ever read.

I've written my share of stories in this genre, but I'm taking lessons from Dusty in terms of how he describes both his characters and their actions. When Cassie gets into that first fight, I can hear and almost feel the blows. Amazing stuff.

The Siege does require an investment on the reader's part, but once you get into it a bit, it rewards you with a truly extraordinary story. While there are many aspects to a story, Dusty's detailed view of what a superpowered woman would REALLY be like is awesome. He can make you believe.

I'm working on it now too - I'm a VERY slow reader - and have another book I'm really trying to finish - but wow - what a great start and I can't wait to read the entire thing - as I also skipped into the story for a bit to make sure I was going to like it - and I think I will.

Thanks very much for sharing this quality and truly unparalleled epic!

Wow. This is at least as good as most of the stuff in bookstores. Please keep at it!

:)

Oh, you guys!....I'm starting to blush.

I'm just glad people are liking the story so far. I wanted to do a "genre piece" (aka, lots of smoking hot superbabes, and lots of sex, drugs, rock n roll, and plenty of super-violence), but wanted to take it further and see if it could work as a long-form, viable "more mainstream" story. So far, it's worked out, mostly. We'll see, there's a looonnng way to go, and plenty of opportunities for me to screw it up royally.

The good news is, unlike some other novel-length things I've tried, I have thought about this one so much when not at the keyboard, I know EXACTLY where it's going, along with how the subplots are going to be tied up at the end. (this doesn't always happen, and it's a relief, let me tell you). Now, it's just a matter of typing it out.

I'm 15 pages into Part 4 and hope to have it done before too long. The entire story (or, book?) is going to be REALLY big. More than I imagined. I can't really see how it could be less than 500 pages, but of course it's still early.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody; I love hearing everyone's thoughts on the story. More soon!
